If the kid wasn't injured then how was it excerssive force?

I was spanked as a kid, occassionally in public if I was being particularly misbehaved and I turned out fine.

A little spanking never hurt anyone and I see no problem with it.

Child care professionals tend to disagree with hitting children. I wonder why.

The worst brats that I have seen belong to parents who are too permissive and won't use corporal punishment. Then later on, they wonder how their "little darlings" got into trouble with the law when they become teenagers. Spare the rod,and spoil the child. Never did me any harm, but it sure did show me what I could expect from bad behaviour.

Grabbing by the neck might be a bit much. Nothing wrong with a swat. The ONE person who called police maybe should of had more swats as she was growing up.

In cases of possible abuse I think the cops pretty much have to lay charges.

Lesson learned? Take the kid to the washroom stall next time. Or turn to anyone giving you a dirty look and say "What? You want one too?" -- Ok maybe not that lol

We have to be pPC these days. We have the same bullshit laws in the states.Any parent that spanks their child because they fell the b=need to are always sick for a week, The old saying this is going to hurt me worse than it is going to hurt you is very true.

$1:
43. Every schoolteacher, parent or person standing in the place of a parent is justified in using force by way of correction toward a pupil or child, as the case may be, who is under his care, if the force does not exceed what is reasonable under the circumstances.

Spanking is legal in Canada, BUT children under age two or over the age of 12 cannot be spanked. Instruments such as rulers and belts, or striking a child on the face or head are not allowed. Then again there is a bill that is trying to make spanking illegal.

Probably because most of them don't have kids. Too busy learning all about them in their PhD classes, I guess.

A spank on a diapered butt has never hurt anyone. To me, spanking a 9 y-o (having a 9 y-o myself) is more about the humiliation of the spank on the butt in public than anything else. Same goes, even more, for a 15 year old :P

My kids, who are both members of CKA, were spanked with ' a firm hand applied to the seat of learning'. Measured, controlled and counted strokes. They are both well balanced, productive members of society. Both have two children each who are very well behaved and respectful of others. It would be interesting to see what they have to say on the subject!

It's seems some parents are so pro-hitting children they seem to see past aggressive behavior such as this.

Legally, he has the right to spank his children.

On the other hand, I think that hitting your child is a pretty bad way to make discipline and good parents don't need to resort to that kind of domination techniques.
