BeaverFever BeaverFever: The Sun is already writing the "Justin builds himself a new palace" headline and Levant and his tea-party type cronies are already frothing at the mouth over the thought of high-end accommodations built on the taxpayer dime. Let them. If they mattered, they wouldn't be going bankrupt. If the headline were '24 Sussex fully renovated at half price', Canadians will see the sense in spending the money. So log as no one pees in the coffee cup.

If you need someone to tear it down I volunteer. I have some matches that will work nicely.

No, May because she is the only member of the Greens in Parlament. She May (pun intended) get them to make the house Green. The committee is there to oversee building expenses and to keep the whinning from some people at a minimum.

It sounds like it would be easier to purchase a house in the area that meets the criteria of being offical residence of the Prime Minister.

I could have been cheaper but Cretien refused to renovate for fear it being called an over-priced vanity project. Harper refused as he didn't want to have to move out for a year while it's being done. How far back should these renos have been done and at a much lesser cost? No it was allowed to deteriorate further each year which will cause the cost of renovations to escalate more so than it would've 10, 20 years ago. As much as I dislike Justin I fully agree with his decision and 24 Sussex Drive should be restored. With modern architecture as it is and such it is it would take years to build, wouldn't be as iconic and would cost a damn site more.

CDN_PATRIOT CDN_PATRIOT: OnTheIce OnTheIce: It's only been used as the PM's home for the last 60 years. Exactly. 60 years worth of stories that can be told and things there that were touched by some of the most colourful Prime Ministers this country has had. That alone makes keeping the house worth it. Who knows what other stories it has to tell? -J. 60 years of water pouring through the roof, the potential for electrical fires, air conditioning units in windows all over the house, buckets on the floor to collect water when it rains. It's a dump with little history beyond being a dump. Stories will remain and included in books from the various leaders to live in or visit the home. Pictures can tell the story as well. Take some nice pictures, and tear the bitch down.

Did you watch the video? Maureen McTeer (Joe Clarks' wife) complained that $15,000 (1979 dollars) was not enough to decorate the house. When I bought my house in 1990, it cost $46,500. A neighbour laughed at me, saying the previous owner paid $36,000, and the owner before that paid $24,000. Yes, it's a much smaller house, but that's to buy the house! Maureen claims $15,000 in 1979 dollars was not enough to DECORATE? You listen to her, why?

The real embarrassment is that it wasn't on 99% of Canadians radar till someone's self entitled mother put it there. So, here's the solution. Build a new residence and while that's being done JT and his family can live in 24 Sussex. Given that it takes bureaucrats years to get anything done in Ottawa, by the time the new building is finished JT will be writing him memoires from a retirement home. Problem solved, it won`t look like Trudeau is building himself a new ancestral home and we can spread the billion or so it`ll cost over decades of construction. ![Drink up [B-o]](./images/smilies/drinkup.gif) Either that or, move the whole seat of Gov't to Malawi. They could use the money and we could use a break from the idiocy.

The other article floating around CKA, is that Brian Baumler as the reno expert? If that's the case problem solved. His show is to fix homeowners DIY disasters working with them and getting them to do most of the work after some instruction. So let's just get Justin a tool belt and let him do an actual hard days labour instead of going about destroying the country. Win/win. And if he scratches his head when holding a nail gun and accidentally pulls the trigger we can add another "win".
