BartSimpson BartSimpson:
If we only killed off the unproductive and surplus populations in the world along with the handicapped who purposely waste resources then the global warming issue would be resolved. I figure if we "reduce" about five billion people we can bring the planet back to sustainable levels.
Of course I'm being saracastic, but I'm also paraphrasing Pete Singer who has proposed doing exactly this. Radical environmentalists are pursuing depopulation as a strategy to "save the planet".
The most radical of those propose exterminating all of humanity.
Except themselves, of course.
Don't know who that guy is or details of his Idea(s), but would point out that "De-population" can be done without committing Genocide. Birth Control will work just as well, but would take a few generations before significant Population decreases would occur.
With Current Technologies we certainly could not have the First World Lifestyle extend to all other parts of the World. This enters the Realm of Sustainablilty, an idea that is catching on and increasingly showing itself to be necessary. This is where De-population comes in, with fewer People you can extend the First World Lifestyle into the Third World(raising them up).
Of course that's not the only way to accomplish that. New Technology can solve the problems with Current Technology, but one can not know what will be Developed in Technology, so to solve a Problem you have to assume that the Present is as good as it gets, but know that in time your original "solution" may no longer be necessary. By knowing what needs to be done with Current Technology to solve a problem, it also helps to focus Research in the more important needed areas.
100 years from now there'll likely be many people who look back on this guy and think he was a certified Nutcase(maybe he is :shrug;), but it is likely that his "nuttiness" will have been the Catalyst for others to address future problems.
