And it should serve a lesson to those who think they are good drivers and can drive faster than everyone else. ;)

Shouldn't the article say:

Corvette in the spotlight after "former" GM executive crashes pace car at Detroit IndyCar race

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the accident occurred because of some design defect in the steering or suspension. GMs best days are way behind them.

Your average driver would be extremely hard pressed to keep a ZR1 straight across an intersection with the PTM off, let alone around a corner at speed.

Granted, experienced or not, that thing can pace in Mode 3. It can pace and make the driver feel active in Modes 4 or 5. It will be very silly to pace if the PTM was completely off, but it does appear to be off in the video.

Far more likely this was a mistake, rather then an inherent defect.

Vettes have the cornering ability of a pregnant camel.

I never realized that pregnant camels could corner so well!

Corvettes are certainly not for everyone, but it is very difficult to find an equal level of performance for the same money. They are brutish, they are loud, dare I say, even uncouth...but when you put the nose where it should be, there are very few street legal cars that will come close to catching you, regardless of price range.

Or, like the article says, just a bump in road that everyone knows about and avoids.

Which was my point, that people think they know what they are doing, but one bump when they aren't expecting it and *bam!*.

Not even a little. Corvettes will eat almost every car out there - short distances.

They still suffer from heat soak, like they always have. And always will, until they finally go mid-engine where they can be properly cooled.

If the bump was a 'known issue', it is just more confusing as to why the Corvette was in race mode? Why choose to turn off yaw control, and set MRC to max stiffness?

Sorry Dr. C, I just don't understand the thought process' involved, that led up to the accident. This is a car that can pace in 'ECO Mode' on a base model, and we are watching the much more powerful version slam into a wall with most of the PTM disabled. What ever happened to KISS? Set it to sport, sip your coffee, and take her around the track with one hand.
