They acomodate and customize cars for handicapped people too. What is his excuse?
Jealous because he WANTS to drive without a seat belt??? I have no clue what you are ranting about. I never drive without my seat belt, and I wouldn't if I was allowed to either. It's my own safety.
How does a guy with no arms put on his seat belt?
It's so simple to you, so please explain how it can be done.
He had it adjusted that he could steer with his foot (and NOT on the steering wheel, like you suggested. Look at the pic, he has a pad where with a manual, the clutch pedal is).
Automatic seat belts exist. I'm pretty sure the car adjustment shops can make it work to fit any disability.
Being in the automotive industry and seeing that part of my job over the past 12 months was working with mobility dealers in Canada I can speak a little more personally about this.
Manufacturers like VMI, Braun, Malley, Sure Grip, etc. It's actually quite a fascinating industry and one that's growing in popularity as our population ages and people need ways to move around their parents.
http://www.suregrip-hvl.com/Sure Grip makes various hand controls for pedals, signals, shifters, etc. Driving with your hands and no legs is one thing, driving without arms is a whole different ball game and mobility dealers in Canada wouldn't even consider touching it.
Automatic seat belts aren't an option unless they are factory installed; and they're no longer offered on vehicles.
Seat belts and restraints aren't something you can modify legally as they require crash testing and approvals, just like any mobility ramp or lift. There are so many safety issues with disabled people in vehicle restrains and the scenarios during a collision can be catastrophic.
