As deputies debated the safety of carrying out the rescue of a stolen car from a Florida pond on March 31, three teenage girls drowned inside, according to news reports. Deputies deemed the rescue unsafe after wading into the water, but dashcam footage led the girls’ families to question how much the deputies did to save them.

Around 4 a.m. that morning, Fox News reports that a deputy saw a stolen 1998 Honda Accord driving near St. Petersburg without headlights on. While trying to evade the deputy, the driver reportedly missed a sharp turn and the car went into a pond, per Miami Herald.

The newest footage from the incident includes audio recording of the deputies’ conversation, with one voice saying pointing out the fact that he heard yelling. Later on, another voice says, “Now, they’re done. They’re done.” According to the Herald, a wrecker arrived two hours later.

According to reports, the deputies originally thought the girls escaped and ran away as the car sank in 15 feet of water.

After realizing the girls were inside, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said deputies went in the water and attempted to save the girls. Their feet sank upon entering the pond, and they deemed the rescue to be too risky. With windows rolled up and doors closed, Fox reports that the sheriff, Bob Gualtieri, said the car was a “death chamber.”

Typical Gawker-network horror show in the comment section. The logic that the police aren't trained in water rescues, don't carry rescue equipment with them in their cruisers, that the cops who went into the water immediate sank up to their calves in the slimy murk, and that even the specialist firefighter teams that do this kind of work would have waited until daylight because it's too damn dangerous in the dark, seems to have gone over too many liberal heads as usual.

Anyhow it's another hilarious round of "racist cops killed them innocent children!" as usual. Good for a few morbid laughs if nothing else, with the greater meta overhanging the conversation once again being:

Yeah, it'll suck when the lawsuit gets testimony from the fire department and/or Coast Guard that an immediate rescue was impossible and that the untrained police would have ended up dying themselves if they tried it, but the famblies end up scoring the lotto win against the police department anyway. Because, y'know, racism and all that.

Exactly. I don't assume anyone is responsible for my safety but myself. 15 feet of water isn't difficult to swim in, you just have to be prepared for it and not freak out. If you freak out, you'll die.

A couple times now I've helped out someone with a poorly maintained beater on the side of the highway with flames licking out from under the hood because I carry a fire extinguisher in my truck. The cars were a total write-offs, but that because the gas in the tank was worth more than the car was. But at least nothing else was damaged!

You'd think so but the exact opposite is true. Nothing but respect, even genuine love, for someone like Barack Obama, the Tuskeegee Airmen, Jackie Robinson, Muhammed Ali, even kooky old Ben Carson, and any other African Americans who stepped up and made something of themselves. The non-stop criminals though, who shoot and steal and rape and ruin entire cities with their drug dealing and gang warfare bullshit? Like three little bitches from Florida with arm-length rap sheets already at the ago of 16 who stole a car that someone probably worked hard to be able to afford it? And then their families and other dicks in their community who start calling the cops racists for not diving into a swamp into the middle of the night and get themselves killed trying to save them? Especially over the last eight years, where the election of the first black POTUS should have been used as an example of achievement for those who try the best they can.
