Of course it deserves attention. Where did I say it didn't. What isn't helpful is just making it a black problem, ignoring the problem in other communities. Black leaders should talk to their communities about it, but the larger community, just labeling it a black problem and focusing only on that community is not helpful, it just makes it an us vs them.

When black people are saying it, it's not a Us. vs. Them.

It is largely is a black problem and it's OK to point that out. That's precisely why black leaders are standing up to create change. If you don't think it's helpful...that's fine, you're entitled to have your own opinion.

The Tampa Tribune reports that the three girls, identified as Dominique Battle, 16, Ashaunti Butler and Laniya Miller, both 15, had seven arrests on record for crimes that included vehicle thefts.

Some people improve the planet by leaving it. R=UP

Everything is pretty black and white for you isn't it?

It's a matter of perspective. If you had to live with such people on a day-to-day basis you'd eventually get to where I am, too. I didn't used to be this way. I did much of my growing up on Cape Cod and there was no reason to dislike any group at all.

Then in 1978 my family moved to Sacramento just in time for the demographics to shift in favor of uncultured and uncivilized blacks and Hispanics. So after 38 years of dealing with people who have all the special attributes of dysfunctional pit bulls I've changed.

Now I want to be away from these people and the only thing keeping us here in town is my wife's mom. When the day comes that she's joined her husband then Lisa and I will be packing up and leaving. I've had enough.

If you'd care to demonstrate your love of diversity I'll be sure to let you know when we put the place on the market.

Ok got it. You've seen black people do some bad stuff so these young girls are a burden to society and deserve to die. It must be hell living in the USA.

Is it a prerequisite that cops have to know how to swim... and if not, do they learn how to in training?

I think I'll answer both questions and say no.

Maybe. But it seems to me that when stories come out in Canada about people driving into the water and cops, it's about the heroism of the cops rescuing the people. I know we had a big story here a while ago about a cop rescuing a homeless guy from the freezing Fraser River - I think he got a medal for that.

Swimming in all of that gear would be tough. Swimming in pants is difficult. That isnt to say that the officers couldnt have unrobed and made an attempt but as was mentioned, there was the very real risk of gators and drowning. I can't conclusively say whether they should or shouldn't have attempted but there is little chance the cops knew the thieves were black, So this isnt racial. With no other evidence, I believe the cops are entitled to the benifit of the doubt.

I wasn't there, so what do I know. I'm just saying we don't seem to hear stories like this in Canada, more about cops being heroic. If course if it does happen, it's less likely to have the family charging racism and becoming a major story.

So the wrecker pulled the car out 2 hours later. How did the wrecker driver get the car hooked up, if it was too dangerous to enter the water?

Because the initial chase occurred around 4 AM. Two hours or so later the retrieval team and equipment would have been on the scene and in south Florida there would have been enough morning light by then to make the task much less dangerous. Unless you're under the impression that some mighty tow truck driver dove bare-chested into the pond to hook up his line in the pitch black murk that scared those wussy officers too much.

I'll give you credit for honesty. When asked how many cops should have jumped into the swamp to save some criminals you intimated at least one & maybe more, regardless of any of them doing something like that would have been against departmental policy designed to protect their own lives. Yes, Shaniqua, there is a Super-Cop.
