The ice is just lying there doing nothing. You're the one driving the car. No such thing as black ice.

Black ice forms when wet dirty snow freezes, usually below -15. It is the same exact colour as asphalt. Hence the name 'black' ice. You can't and won't see it unless there is a light source reflecting off of it to let you know it's shiny and different from asphalt.
You should however have learnt to expect it, in winter.
