You want to blame Democrats for the shitmobiles flogged in the 1970s?

Good job ignoring everything else I posted. Like about the yacht industry.

Also, this is easily verified online so [bash] for not being able to use Google to see how this tax impacted the luxury car market.

Only if you think a 1970s Cadillac or Lincoln was a luxury car and some tax was why people bought a Mercedes instead...

BartSimpson BartSimpson:
$1:
"The purpose of a luxury tax is to shift the burden of taxation away from those who can't afford taxes who have to make a choice between taxes and feeding their family, and shifts it to those who can afford to pay taxes so that they make a contribution back to the general welfare of society,” NDP MLA Janet Routledge told CTV News Vancouver.

Bullshit.

The purpose of a luxury tax is to punish wealthy people for their wealth and the net effect of these taxes is the destruction of all of the affected luxury industries.

Did your mom drink when she was pregnant?

I could rant with facts for 50 pages that prove you are wrong. But the easier argument is, the 1% make most of their income from capital gains and options, which are taxed at a SIGNIFICANTLY lower rate (50% of the income is tax free, and the rest is generally taxed at 15%) than normal income - which is what every other member of Canada pays tax on. So cry us a river.
The rich already spent the last 50 years rewriting our tax laws to favour them at our expense. Don't cry when you buy some million dollar toy that includes a luxury tax on it. Every time I vacation I pay more tourism tax than the cost of the entire vacation.

This is the problem:

Show us then.
Because, the last time I checked, the same luxury tax that applied to domestic items, applied to anything imported as well. Not to mention we used to have tariffs on imports.

Another reminder via obnoxiously expensive vehicle that rich people shouldn't be allowed to breed because the kid is almost always just another sociopathic affluenza asshole:

https://www.thedrive.com/news/27481/spo ... lent-crash

$1:
An unlicensed British man stole a luxurious Aston Martin Rapide sedan allegedly rented by his father, crashed it while driving at a high rate of speed, flipped it, then fled the scene of the crime. Why? Because of his attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

The unnamed father of 20-year-old George Jones, rented the aforementioned Aston from November 9 through 12, 2018, from an exotics rental company named Priority Hire, according to The Daily Mail. On the day Jones's father was scheduled to return the car, George absconded with the keys despite not having a license, and went on a joyride.

While out on the roads, Jones reportedly attempted to pass a line of several cars being led by a heavy truck. Jones misjudged the width of the stolen Aston Martin, and hooked its right rear wheel on the truck, causing the car to flip in spectacular fashion.

Prosecutor Alex Daymond, who represented the truck's driver, said the driver felt a jolt big enough to shake him in his seat.

"He looked in his mirror and saw a black vehicle doing a cartwheel," Draymond said. The unnamed truck driver, Draymond continued, saw Jones "crawling across the roof of the car," before Jones jumped out and proclaimed "I am fucking off."

Jones fled directly back to his father's house, where police found him after tracing ownership of the car to the rental company, who pointed them to the Jones residence. It was there that police arrested the 20-year-old, who admitted in Gloucester Crown Court on April 13, 2019, to "aggravated vehicle taking and driving without a license or insurance."

Jones didn't admit to the crime before his lawyer Joe Maloney gave a Twinkie Defense-level excuse for Jones's irresponsible behavior: "ADHD issues."

Personally, I suffer from ADHD, too, but impulsivity has not once led me to steal a toy car, let alone car worth six figures. Going by the fact that he ran straight back to daddy with the expectation that everything would be okay, this probably isn't a case of ADHD, but of Affluenza.

Too bad for him it didn't happen in the US. The odds would have been much greater that some Dr. Bonespurs quack would have testified on his behalf and some credulous crud of a pussywimp judge would have let him off with apologies from the court for all the aggravation.

If you buy your yacht in Panama and register it in Panama then you don't pay FUCK in taxes to Canada.

People beat California's taxes on pricey cars, yachts, and aircraft by simply buying and registering them in other states and other countries.

They'll do the same to Canada, too.

And the price will be all the jobs lost in Canada's domestic industries.

Oh, and this:

"The automotive sector is incredibly competitive. Where a consumer can go to another jurisdiction to save money, they will," Qualey said.

And that's why it's being done is because too many voters are envious of anyone who has $1 more than they do.

Envy? Not really. I get angry with rich people when they use their money and influence to gain every advantage over everyone else, circumventing laws and other things that average people (like myself) have to abide by to the letter or else.

People preach about how everyone is equal, yet people with more money can do as they please, and pay off people to get around things.

Completely sick and tired of this crap.

There's a Lambourghini dealership here in town, they set up shop when the money was flowing like water into the hands of the "elite". I make a point of rolling the car window down and giving them the finger whenever I drive by it. Jealousy has nothing to do with it. It has everything to do with the sure knowledge that anyone who would buy a car like that is simply an asshole proving he's an asshole with their arrogant "look at what I can waste my money on, losers!" attitude. Want to impress me? Make an effort to keep your employees instead of laying them off just so you can go buy a fucking Lambourghini. Your car, your $50K golf club membership, your gaudy & tasteless $million-plus home on Asshole Avenue, and all that other shit mean absolutely NOTHING to me. Crap like that is only good for revealing the real characters and mentalities of the cretins who have them.

bootlegga bootlegga:

Maybe we shouldn't be laughing at this spoiled rotten little shit because, at the end of the day his insurance premiums aren't one hell of alot higher than ours. So, when he goes out and scratches the bumper on his brand new 5 million dollar penis which, he inevitably will he's gonna get it's outrageous repair cost taken care of on our dime.

Oh, that's not the big cost. Supercars are meant for flamboyance, not longevity. I can make my Focus produce 1000 horsepower too. Once.

Maintenance on many supercars is more frequent and more expensive than a mass production car. Supercars aren't designed to be serviceable. An oil change can cost $20k, because the car has to be disassembled to get to the engine.

https://www.autoinfluence.com/cars-most ... intenance/

I've seen people spend $20k a weekend on tires for a McLaren. 8O

Whereas, an oil change for a Tesla is - $0. 8)
