http://www.cbc.ca/canada/edmonton/story ... l-mom.html

Apparently, it's Ok to abuse your small children and stand by and let them be tortured and raped in Edmonton. This woman needs to be incarcerated and sterilized.

$1:
The mother of a four-year-old girl who was sexually and physically assaulted will not spend any time behind bars.

The 22-year-old mother was sentenced Thursday in a case Edmonton police once called the most horrific child abuse they'd ever seen.

$1:
Court of Queen's Bench Judge Darlene Acton sentenced her to two years of house arrest with very strict conditions.

Acton told her she would have to live with the guilt and shame for what she has done for the rest of her life.

OOOO, she has been so severely........chastised.

$1:
But Crown lawyer Shelley Bykewich had asked the judge to impose a 3½-year sentence, saying the girl turned to her mother as a protector but instead found another hit, slap or punch on a regular basis.

During the trial, court heard that the little girl was deprived of water, repeatedly hit and handcuffed to furniture as punishment, and sexually assaulted by Bannert.

3 and 1/2 years? Oh my Gosh, that is just so severe!! This woman let her boyfriend [Bannert], sexually abuse her child and then she beat her. Will the house arrest include handcuffing her and depriving her of water?

Our justice system keeps on turning out one screwed up decision after another, they keep this up and vigilante justice will start to gain in popularity.

The justice system is supposed to serve the people, and the people are saying that the system DOES NOT work.

We don't have a justice system, we have a legal system.

yes, it seems that argueing the technicalities is were the moneys at.Look at our government, the liars, cheats and thieves that run our country and steal money from the people with very little consequence.our judges are no different nor the lawyers, they preside over cases that are worth money and look the other way when they feel like it.that little girl deserves better.when she grows up and learns about her past and what her mom and the creep boyfriend did to her and how our fine justice/legal system rewarded the people responsible. her mother.

You titled it "child abusers come to Alberta"

Maybe you can point out anywhere in that article it says that,or is that just your thoughts?

No prob Shep, just pointing out that you used a story that is quite sad to make it appear that Alberta welcomes this kind of thing as your headline suggests. So guess thats your first dig. :?

I gotta admit that's a pretty lame title. This story could be about any place in Canada.

IceOwl IceOwl:
It seems to me that the mother needs as much help as the child is going to need. A plea of insanity would make more sense that a prison sentence.
The guy who molested the kid is probably the only one who should actually serve jail time.
She committed a crime, prison is where she belongs.

The fact that this could be from anywhere in Canada speaks volumes about the judiciary in this country.
