I suppose Canada should end the military over this justification to end the military.

Why? As the article says, the military provides structure and safety. It didn't say the military causes child abuse, it says the military is a draw for people who have experienced it. And it says that the abused who join the military commit suicide less frequently than abused in the general population. There is something protective about the military. Although that might be because the military selects the more resilient individuals.

Did you even bother reading the op, or just do a knee jerk?

I read it. I've also been hearing variations on this theme for 34 years. It's nothing new.

End it? This is a justification to keep it. We need a place to keep these types. Sort of employed, but not really, housed together on the margins of society, out of most peoples' way, with rigid routine, a strict code of conduct under the watchful eye of supervisors.

My single greatest regret was that I never went into the military after high school. I don't think any of the disasters that plagued my later life would have happened at all if I'd joined up and acquired the more disciplined and orderly mindset the military teaches.

Keep these types? what exactly do you mean by "these types" and why do you feel they need to be kept?

We need to keep them somewhere because we only have one arena in town so we can't employ them all as rink-rats.

Remember this the next time you mistakenly expect me to be nice to you.

We don't want these types to be nice. We want them to be gung-ho and angry. That's why we keep them mostly caged until their deployment is necessary.

"Shitty" if it's applied to the abused children identified in the OP? Sure, guilty. That was not my intention. But for the many who end up basic training because they are otherwise unemployable?

His true colours, shining through. Just like Andy.

Watch, now he gets all aggressive and starts to get all bitchy trying to unsay
what eh really feels about the people who serve.
