EyeBrock EyeBrock:
If we are funding a national media outlet with our collective taxes, it should at least try and be more objective.
The CBC is very obviously left-leaning.

It's the tv and radio version of the Toronto Star but the Star is a private company. We can choose to fund it or not fund it. We have no such choice with the CBC.

I agree. They have a responsibility to reflect the nation as a whole. It is an impossible task but one that they should always be aiming for.

Exactly. To draw a parallel, we all know that the Wall Street Journal has a conservative editorial. We all know that the New York Times has a liberal editorial. I can't speak of english media but in Quebec, we know who's separatist editorialists and who's federalist (even if they tend to say they are somehow unbiased, we know however). The same thing should be said about TV. You are left leaning ? Good but say it. Same thing for the right, the separatists, the federalists. Just say it.

CTV News net isn't much better. They used to routinely trot out Stephen Staples, a well known anti-military activist when the CF had guys killed in Afghanistan.

I guess Lew Mackenzie and Jack Granetsein don't jive with the CTV/Staples mantra as they don't make appearances any more. I also presume that they didn’t need an expert opinion from real ex-soldiers when they can use far-left anti-establishment wankers like Staples.

It’s obvious when the pick such polarizing speakers that CTV are as left as the CBC. I remember watching Scott Laurie going on an anti-cop rant during the Quebec G7 riots. The bias in CTV is also quite obvious.

Is it too much to ask to expect a middle of the road to reporting the news?

Just let us know what’s going in Canada and the world, spare us the political agendas and commentaries.

These days I get my news off the internet. TV news is just a load of old bollocks.

The CBC is far more balanced overall than any of the private media outlets. The Star skews left, CanWest and CTVGlobemedia unabashedly right.

Like it or not, the CBC does a pretty good job of charting a middle course. Of course, if you skew right in your political outlook, anything centre or left sticks in your craw.

Our media is a product of our country - left leaning.

Even if a majority of Canada is lefty, the other 40-45% isn't. The tv news media is left-leaning. The other 40-45% of the country isn't being represented on the airwaves or in the TV studios.

That's just not right, especially with the CBC getting it's platform from our taxes, left and right.

So say you. The irony is that your namesake'd would be calling you a republican and wouldn't be meaning it as a compliment.

CTV's blue Tory and CanWest's editorial position has been bumping up against Reform since Conrad Black's day.

Decry it all you like; fact is fact

Maybe from your point of view. Look past the Tory icon and push your own personal prejudices aside.
Those that know me on here know I'm no rabid partisan. I’m pretty objective and there is no fact in your post.

Sorry you think it that way. Unless you're calling CanWest and CTVGlobeMedia lapdogs of the left, your naysaying's a waste of ether. You may not like CBC for giving the country radio and TV coverage in both official languages (which neither of the privates do) and treading a middle editorial road.

But stamping your feet isn't going to change reality

Just as a follow up, your icon's a Canadian hero but wasn't overly fond of being confined to this provincial backwater. He was chomping at bit to be in the big fight over there and it was only circumstance that kept him here.

Middle editorial road? You seem to be on your own there. Most of the left side of CKA agree that the CBC is left leaning.

Sorry but you've yet to address the "CanWest and CTVGlobeMedia lapdogs of the left" point I made.

They in the Liberal pocket in your humble opinion?

Specific to this thread? No, it isn't OT directly. I just find it sadly amusing that one who'd appropriate Brock's name would seem so resolutely in the corner of Willcocks.

Hey, I have an opinion. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it any less of an opinion.
