The CRTC is going to do whatever they want.... In the long run.. We the consumers will end up paying someone, either more to the local TV stations or more to the cable companies. It is basically a lose/ lose situation.

Since this has started I have cut my rogers bill.
I got rid of the movie stations(they sucked anyway's)
Bought an answering machine to replace voice mail and returned 2 of My 3 converter boxes.
My bill was around $195 a month and is now around $120.
Rogers will not miss it but it made Me feel better

If the price of the fallout is a price hike to the consumer, I think most us will cut our services to lessen the bill. At least I hope so. That way we will still get the local stuff and make due without the bells and whistles. The loss of revenue will send a strong message to the powers that be.

It is time for a consumer revolt. But, I am sure this to will fizzle and in typical Canadian form we will all just take it and pay up.

Ash1980: Just wanted to reply to you're message, Its not Rogers, Bell or any cable company's fault for this fee, those big cable company's were already supporting the small local cable company's like global, ctv, ect in the past, however it does cost an extreme amount of money to support those channel to allow people who enjoy local programming to watch those channels. The local programming is having a hard time paying to provide their programming, therefor they are asking more money from Bigger cable company's like Rogers and Bell. That's were the fee is coming from as they were already paying enough money to keep them running therefor the CRTC made a decision to charge the carrier fee to customers to keep local channel's available. The other decision they could of done was take local programming off the air all together. I wonder witch decision people would enjoy the most. To pay the CRTC carrier fee of 5-10$ to support local programming they love watching or to lose those channel's all together. Please give you're opinion at www.stopthetvtax.com as everyone's opinion makes a matter in all decision's the CRTC will make.

No I have a better idea Patricia-employee-of-satellite-company.
You supply local TV stations cbc-glocal-ctv-etc for absolutely free, unencrypted. A satellite dish and no decoder needed. Like you were SUPPOSED TO when the satellite industry was first set up. You get them for nothing, so you sell them for nothing.
The local stations still get dick, you get dick and we won't pay dick. 100% Fair.
Then you get rid of those disgusting fraudulent packages where DISC channel is split over three different ones, and stop trying to flog HD in 'extra' packages.
Or STFU.
And stuff your PPV up yer arse while you're at it, it costs more than renting a blue-ray at Movie Gallery. I watched TWO PPVs with the EIGHT FREEBIES I got, that's all that there were worth watching in the 90 day time limit.

Seemingly it's the Canadian way. Also. DO NOT ever look up US prices for the same services. You'll feel a lot more angry.

How true the whole thing is over priced and it is time for the companies to look at the fact they all over charge for the bs they give .

Wow You earned Your pay this week for whichever cable company You work for.
The only way consumers will fight this is by cutting their cable bill's.We cannot hurt the crtc and as Canadians we are forced to watch the local stations that take over the U.S. feeds.
I am the first to admit that I cannot live without TV so My family has cut it down too cheapest We are happy with.We really don't miss it

Sorry Patricia, but the way that Bell, Roger's and Shaw have fucked the consumer over sooo many times before, the only ones that will believe this dreck are the idiots that can't form 2 cohesive thoughts in a row.

Roger's and Bell screwed the customer for YEARS by charging a fee that was only supposed to be in effect for 10 years. They kept charging the fee and got caught.
Roger's and Shaw have tried to confiscate privately bought equipment from people that were already paying for the service into their homes simply because they had more than 1 TV hooked up.
Bell constantly and consistently misrepresents their products and services.
They way these bastards have lied to us and ripped us off over the years, what makes you think any of us would believe a word they say?

I watch way less TV than I used to, and now that I have LCD TVs that can hook up to my PC, I'll be watching even less.

This will never happen I know the Canadian Gestapo (crtc) will never except letting households choose the stations that each household pays for.
If I was allowed to pick 50 stations that My family wanted would be more than enough and I would feel My money was being better spent.
