On the plus side, it might keep Americans out of Canada. :D

If they want to build a fence, I say let them.

At least then they can't blame us the next time terrorists get into the USA - it won't be possible to falsely scapegoat Canada as the source of terrorists on the next 9/11 - it'll be entirely their own fault.

Let them do what they will, as long as the border remains where it is and what it signifies in all aspects. Let there always be a Canada. [B-o]

to the Americans on this site:

we like having you around, we really do.

But for the love of God please write to your Congressman and Senator, and tell them what a stupid, ridiculous, boondoggle black pit waste of money this idea is.

You are only succeeding at pissing off your best friends.

Oh and someone go and smack Napolitano with an ugly stick, she needs dressing up. :)

They can do what they want. I'm tired of dealing with their paranoia, illogic, and irrationality. If this farce continues much longer then Canada is obviously going to have to move our efforts both politically and economically away from the US and into the wider world. If we stick too close to a nation that is deliberately refusing to let Sept 11 2001 recede into the past, and pathetically indulges itself in continuously picking at that wound to the point that it has no possibility of ever healing, then we're just going to be dragging ourselves down with them.

Canada has to think of our own future in terms of post-American. The US as a psychological entity isn't going to be healthy again for the simple fact that they obviously don't want to get better. We can move onwards for our own needs or we can have our lives dictated by a pathologically depressed old aunty who doesn't even bother to get out of bed anymore. The choice is ours.

So true, Thanos.

Is it too early to say that the terrorists won? :(

As long as I can still go through the border crossings, only the cost of this would bother me.

I say go for it. It will make it easier to control the border when the nation of Joe the Plumbers have finally driven the country to total breakdown.

No doubt. We'll cut a few holes in the fence to let the smarter ones come here. The rest of the Palin-types aren't welcome at all.

Not including the border between Canada and the state of Alaska, the US-Canada border is 3987 miles long. It is the longest border in the world.

I wouldn't like to be any of the people who have to paint a fence that is almost 4000 miles long, never mind build it.

Compared to the laying of both of our railway systems a fence would be childs play. XD

Wait till they have to put it up between northern Ontario and Minnesota. There's a lake that straddles the border every couple hundred yards. Just rhetoric to deflect the other areas of southern USA where the problems are. If you create a problem and fix it you look like a hero.

Are you suggesting Ron Paul's concern that border fences will imprison Americans has merit?

I think building a long fence is possible. It won't necessarily work, but it's possible.
