Since its near impossible to stop adults from being bad parents, something I believe that would help slow the rise in obesity would be change the way the schools treat it.

Bring back fitness requirements, for all grades k-12. Don't meet the fitness standards then you can't pass any classes. Start it young when children should naturally be able to do chin ups, sit ups, push ups and can run for miles. The standards would be what the min fitness standards are for CF basic training (by the time they are in secondary school).

Bring in school lunch programs that feed only healthy food. None of the prepackaged crap or fast food they eat.

Now of course there would be exceptions for people with medial conditions (being fat doesn't count)

If we were able to keep k-12 students fit threw out those 13 years then chances are they will keep that healthy lifestyle for the rest of their lives.

schools should not be runned like military bases

Why not??? Obviously, current methods and practices are dismal failures!

the only failure is parents letting schools to do all the parenting

It's well know that the BMI (body mass index) is a flawed system for measuring obesity, not to disagree that obesity is a problem these days.
I agree with the comment stating tell your kids to go outside, nothing cures obesity like physical activity, but some people are just built different.
I am heavier now that I've ever been (having had a desk job for the last 3 years), 5'9" at 175 lbs. My son is more portly than I was at his age but his mom says she was a chubby kid so I atribute it to that. My kid plays vids like any boy his age (as do I) but it's limited and we do alot of physical activity together weather it a walk with the dogs after dinner or an afternoon swim or throwing the football around.
A healthy diet and physical activity is the key, I would like to see even more tax breaks for sports and other physical activities.
My sons school has taken out the candy machine and doesn't have a pop machine anymore, if parents want to send a snack for the kids they can send whatever they want healthy or no so the onus is on parents.
