the news said the victims aren't co-operating with the police, so i'm thinking they knew who did this to them, and are either afraid to say something or just plain stupid.

Without futher investigation and cooperation we are really in the dark about motive. It is not really all that rare for an assailant to claim a racial slur which never was uttered. Bear in mind some of these beauties will behave like this if they decide you looked at them wrong.

The law does not condone this sort of assault as appropriate for an insult real or imagined.

Had it been a group of White kids beating and outnumbering a couple of black kids.

The media coverage would have been completely different, with continuous coverage all day long. All black organization groups would be crying foul, calling for the government to act rapidly. At the same time, saying that Canadians are racists. It would then be considered a hate crime. Funny how one specific group is allowed while the other is not. No matter what was said, there will never be a good enough justification for that ''uncivilized'' bunch to gang up on anyone.

In fairness, I did see a white kid partaking in the assault alongside the black kids. This was more a matter of thugs on jerks than a black vs. white thing.
