Salvadorans Could Be The Next Wave Of Illegals Crossing US Border To Canada

$1:
There are more than a quarter of a million people from El Salvador living in the U.S. who could see their temporary protected status (TPS) disappear by March 2018.

If so, they could be deported. Or they may cross illegally into Canada, as thousands of Haitians continue to do.

According to the Canadian Press, border officials in both Canada and the U.S. are worried that the next surge of illegals will be the Salvadorans.

Officials in Canada and the U.S. are concerned that the next wave of asylum seekers at the border could be a population far bigger than the Haitians crossing now. They have not been authorized to speak publicly about their expectations but say at least there is no social media campaign ongoing that is encouraging people from El Salvador to seek asylum in Canada — as there has been in the expatriate Haitian community living in the U.S.

The government of El Salvador doesn’t want the migrants back — not now — and is requesting that President Donald Trump extend the temporary protected status of the nationals living in the U.S.

Foreign Minster Hugo Martinez told the Voice of America Friday that it would not be a good time for those 260,000 refugees to return to El Salvador because the country has been wracked by tropical storms and drought in the last five years.

“We’ve told the U.S. also that, of course they had their reasons initially for granting TPS in 2001 — the instability following the earthquakes in January and February of 2001 — and while we have overcome some of that instability, unfortunately we’ve suffered other catastrophes,” Martinez said.

The U.S. first allowed the Salvadorans into the U.S. in March 2001 after a earthquakes rocked the small Central American country.

Martinez did not comment on the potential of the contingent making tracks for Canada if their TPS is canceled next year.

Although Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said there is “no advantage” to crossing illegally into Canada, the executive director of the Canadian Council for Refugees said on Saturday that this government line is “obviously false.”

Janet Dench told the HuffPost Canada that Trudeau’s words seem “like a strange strategy…The reason that people come irregularly is because that is the way to avoid the Safe Country Agreement. I don’t understand on what basis you could say you don’t have an advantage by doing it. I mean, the advantage is you can make a claim [while] you would be immediately found not eligible if you presented yourself at a point of entry,” she said.

The Trudeau government actually dispatched one of its Members of Parliament (MP) to Miami last week to speak to Haitians who were thinking of illegally entering Canada. The goal was said to be about correcting any misconceptions about Canada’s refugee system.

“We are trying to stop all irregular entries in Canada,” said MP Emmanuel Dubourg. “Canadian consulates in the U.S. are well involved.”

The title of this thread is misleading. I suggest "Traitors and Invaders" is more appropriate.

Canada has more land area than the US, but much smaller population. Canada used to have 1/10 the population of the US, now it's 1/8.9. We're not growing faster in terms of sheer numbers, but we are proportionately. Most of the difference is immigration.

Last weekend I went with someone to a festival in Morden, Manitoba. One booth was for immigrants from South America. They have a lot of immigrants from Brazil. As long as immigrants are willing to move to small towns, we're good!

The proportion of individuals on social assistance is much lower with immigrants than citizens who were born here. They add to our economy. As long as they assimilate, I see this as good.

Canada is all immigrants. Even Aboriginal people immigrated to North America, although most of them did so 11,000 years ago. There is a theory that Solutrean people came across the Atlantic 17,000 years ago, during the ice age. That would make them the first European immigrants. And DNA analysis of Algonquin skeletons that date before European colonization show they're 25% European, so living descendants of those first immigrants. We're all immigrants.

Legal immigrants are not Border Jumpers. They're not the topic. No offence Winnipegger, but if you're talking legal immigrants you might as well be enlightening us on the on the mating habits of the spiny lumpsucker (it's a fish.)

Canada preparing winter shelters as migrant wave continues

$1:
Montreal (AFP) - Canada expects migrants to continue border jumping from the United States for many more months, and officials said Friday they are readying temporary accommodation to deal with the surge through winter.

A harsh winter is around the corner, and the government launched an urgent call for the winterized mobile homes.

Many of the more than 7,000 migrants who crossed on foot from the US state of New York into Canada's Quebec province since July 1 have been housed in tent cities near the border set up by the military.

Others were put up at Montreal's Olympic stadium and other venues until better accommodations could be found.

"These tents do have heaters, but we also have a very, a very cold winter in this country," said Transportation Minister Marc Garneau, who is also chairing an emergency task force to deal with the surge in asylum seekers.

"And so we are, as a precautionary measure, looking at the possibility of trailers... which have a more robust capability to be able to house people in colder conditions."

Temperatures in eastern Canada dropped to 6 degrees Celsius (43 Fahrenheit) at night at the end of August and could fall further in the coming weeks.

The tendering documents say the trailers must be "comfortable in all seasons" and ready within six weeks of the awarding of the contract. Bids close on September 5.

The mobile homes would be needed to house 200 people in Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle, Quebec, about 60 kilometers (37 miles) south of Montreal.

Most of the recent arrivals are Haitians who face expulsion from the United States when their temporary asylum permit -- granted after the devastating 2010 earthquake -- expires at the end of the year.

The wave of migrants started after Donald Trump was elected president last year, with thousands crossing into central Manitoba province in the dead of winter.

One woman died in the cold before reaching the border, while two men lost their fingers to frostbite during the treacherous journey across snow-covered fields and backwoods.

Boarder jumpers in Quebec speak French. Boarder jumpers in Manitoba don't, but they've lived in the US so long they've learned English; most people in Manitoba speak English. These people really REALLY want to come to Canada. You're obsessing over the label "illegal". These people have to be screened, ensure criminals are sent back, but other than criminals, Why? Wouldn't it make more sense to expedite their legal status?

The picture Brah posted says it all.

I'm not sure how noticing what the topic of this thread is, is obsessing over it.

You don't seem to think there's a difference between legal and illegal.

Here's one for you. In a post above you say, "The proportion of individuals on social assistance is much lower with immigrants than citizens who were born here."

That may be true about some block of legal immigrants. I'm pretty close to positive I've read unemployment amongst Justine's recent refugee crop is outrageously high. And too many of them speak neither English or French. Also they don't seem to be interested in learning. So if that's the case I'm going to guess they're getting the money to exist from someplace else.

But what about the illegals? Remember them? They're what this topic is supposed to be about. This summer more than 3000 a month were pouring in from just one Border Jumpers' hot spot in Quebec according to an RCMP estimate in one of the videos above.

Also in that video somebody claiming to work with the Border Jumpers said they could claim all Canadian services for as long as their refugee claim was under review. He estimated the review would take about a year and a half. So would that "proportion of individuals on social assistance" be as you say, "much lower with immigrants than citizens who were born here."

If you're claiming the answer is "Yes," my reply would simply be, "don't be ridiculous."

There are many differences between illegal and legal immigrants. Illegals have always been a problem. This recent Canada wide horde of invaders is quickly becoming a massive problem.

If they really REALLY wanted to come to Canada then why were they not in Canada many years ago? You state that BORDER JUMPERS IN Manitoba have been in the U.S. so long that they learned English. It doesn't sound like Canada was their first choice of places to locate, does it? It sounds like they really REALLY don't want to go back where they came from and they know they can play Canada like a fiddle. It sounds like Canada is more a place of convienence now that the U.S. is cracking down on illegals. It sounds like the illegals jumping the border now are going to hang out in Canada riding the gravy train (on your dime) until there is a change in the U.S. White House. The minute there is another bleeding heart liberal in the White house dependent on left wing voters , these border jumpers will bail on Canada so fast your head will spin.

I could be wrong on that last point. When people get on the gravy train for too long, they lose their will to work. They become dependent on government help. They become a protected class of citizen where nothing is expected of them. They and their decedents are on the perpetual gravy train because of some perceived slight in their past. You know like all that time they spent living in a refugee camp where the TV screens are not large enough. The menu does not meet their special cultural needs. People do not address them in their native tongue. Satellite package is not up to spec. Etc., etc. They go back to their lives in the states, or stay in Canada on the gravy train. It doesn't sound like the best class of immigrants to me.

There could be dangerous long-term consequences to Trudeau’s immigration approach

$1:
Canada’s prime minister doesn’t seem too concerned by the surge of illegal border crossings.

Aside from a firmly worded statement last week – reminding the world that Canada is “a country of laws” – Justin Trudeau hasn’t announced any new policies or measures to secure our borders.

So far in 2017, upwards of 26,000 migrants have illegally entered Canada and filed asylum claims. Many of these folks have simply walked across an unpatrolled section of the border.

Trudeau, meanwhile, continues to downplay the issue of illegal immigration and border security, insisting that everything is under control.

At an emergency meeting with community leaders to address the recent surge, Trudeau’s focus was reportedly on “marketing Canada as an open and welcoming society.”

Ironically, the PM’s marketing stunts — misrepresenting Canada as an open-border liberal utopia — are part of the reason we’re in this mess.

Aside from the tremendous strain on public finances and our refugee resettlement organizations, there are serious and long-terms concerns that come from neglecting immigration security.

For decades, Europe’s approach to immigration was a lot like Justin Trudeau’s. European leaders weren’t too concerned with border checks, managing immigration or the integration of newcomers.

Instead, official multiculturalism reigned. Newcomers were told they could maintain their own cultural practices and beliefs, and there was no impetus on learning the local language.

Europe’s leaders insisted that all immigration was good for the economy and therefore good for Europe. When problems occurred within Europe’s closed immigrant communities, local politicians treated migrants like victims and blamed Europeans for their exclusion.

You couldn’t design a more destructive immigration strategy if you tried.

By 2015, Europe was a powder keg waiting for a match. And that match came in the form of German Chancellor Angela Merkel issuing an open invitation to millions of refugees.

The large number of migrants and refugees poured into Western Europe and joined the existing migrant enclaves and closed communities.

Today, Europe is not only a fractured society – it has an enemy within. According to recent figures from the EU’s counter-terrorism coordinator, there are now 60,000 radicalized Islamists living in Britain, France, Belgium and Spain – four countries that have recently experienced deadly Islamist terrorist attacks.

Of Western Europe’s fanatical Islamists, 35,000 live in Britain and are committed Islamists – meaning they reject British laws and prefer instead to live under an Islamic Caliphate and sharia law.

Three thousand are jihadists – Islamists who are committed to using violence and waging war against those who oppose their religious zealotry. Five hundred are apparently ready to strike.

This is more than just a “worry.” It’s become a war.

Thankfully, Canada has nowhere near this level of division and isolation within our immigrant communities.

We have plenty of advantages over Europe – namely geography and vast oceans separating us from war zones and terrorist hotbeds, but also a historic commitment to sensible immigration policies.

Canada has always been committed to integration and making sure newcomers are welcomed into the broader Canadian community. We insist newcomers follow our laws, learn our language and adopt our core Canadian values.

But Trudeau’s lackadaisical approach to immigration, his unwillingness to take immigration security seriously, could have dangerous and long-term consequences for Canada.

Watching the U.K. deal with a radicalized insurgency should serve as a warning: tackle illegal immigration and focus on integration before it’s too late.

And then people wonder why Poland and the V4 countries want no part
of this suicidal policy.

You are all over the map here. A few posts back you are stating that it made sense to expadite these border jumpers legal status. A few posts before that you were lecturing us all on how we were ALL immigrants here in North America, whatever that means. Now you are posting us about how the boy wonder Trudeau is stating how border jumpers will not better themselves by jumping the border. Yet he would appear to be all over the map as well. Back in Jan. Trudeau said that:"to those fleeing persecution, terror and war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength #welcome to Canada." Those are his exact words. He wanted to play the big shot and take a cheap shot at Trump, and now all of Canada is going to have to pay for his idiocy. His little cheap shot to amuse himself will cost Canadians millions of dollars. You see those border numbers feel that they are being "persecuted" in the states. They have an open invitation to invade your country. Wonderboy should have stuck to taking selfies. He is totally out of his league taking on a man that runs a multi billion dollar empire, or even a child running a lemon aid stand for that matter. Now he wants to backtrack and state the border jumpers will not have an advantage. LOL!!!! Thats a laugh!! At the end of that video that you posted where where daddy's boy is stating how the border jumpers will have no advantage, he states how he wants to speed up the process for temporary work permits so the people will be less dependent on the support for asylum seekers. How is that NOT an advantage? Why don't we ask some of the LEGAL immigrants to Canada that we have on this forum? I remember having to wait my turn in line. I never got any "accelerated process" due to thousands of my countrymen jumping the border illegally. We have many immigrants from Europe on this forum. How about it guys? Did any of you get an "accelerated process"for anything due to thousands of your countrymen illegally entering Canada? I doubt it. I SERIOUSLY doubt it.

The fact of the matter is that selfie boy put his foot in his mouth. One of the cardinal rules about statesmanship is the ability to keep ones mouth shut. I think we are all in agreement that Donald Trump is severely lacking in this capacity. REAL statesmen keep their mouths shut and give their opponents enough rope to hang themselves. CLEARLY hang themselves. Amateurs always have to trow their two cents in. They always say something that they regret. Trudeau tried to be a smart ass and gain some political capitol on Trump's immigration policies. The fact of the matter is he fucked up. People are actually taking him up on his offer. They have a verbal contract. They feel persecuted in the states, and they were INVITED to Canada. Those are the facts, and they are undisputed. Trudeau knows he fucked up big time. Its too late for his face saving bullshit. The border is being overran. Its getting worse every day. Soon Canada will be in full-blown crisis mode thanks to his amatuer hour bullshit. You guys are always bitching about Trump, but he does not have to spend millions of dollars to deport illegal aliens. All he has to do is talk tough. Canada's illegal immigration problem is just warming up. Its going to get a lot worse. A lot, lot worse. They are not going to head south of the American border. They have an open invitation, an invitation that might hold up in the world court. Hair boy fucked you good and hard.
