We had a beautiful, clear sky last night and quite enjoyed the sight. I hope the snow clears before dark so we can admire it again tonight. It really is something.

I just went outside to have a look.
The skies are clear and the moon is nice... but can't say that I was impressed. :?

As for SD's question, go take a look at what happened to the plates in March 1993, the last time the moon was this close.

Clear sky here...

The moon does look spectacular tonight, I was just out on my deck admiring it. Very bright, though full moons always are, tonight it seems features are clearer so it is obviously that much closer (it doesn't just look a bright ball). I face east so right now I have a great show and will for awhile yet, I have slanted skylight windows almost to the roof level from my livingroom up to my loft bedroom.

LOL... the local paper today had a front-page article about people stocking up on supplies in preparation for today...

So, what happened in March 1993? Refresh my memory...

Sorry ray, the last time the moon was this close was 2005, it was 1993 the last time there was also a full moon.

$1:
The occurrences, technically known as "lunar perigees," were previously visible in 1955, 1974, 1992, 1993 and 2005. But what makes this one particularly special is that it coincides with a full moon, which hasn't happened since 1993, according to Geoff Chester of the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C.

Sadly, that was Walmart's number one seller shortly after Katrina hit Louisiana.
