Yea, no shit. But it's not just an employer favouring a particular employee to be. It has a lot to do with self-confidence. More attractive people are generally more confident, and more confident people are generally more succesful.

Hate to admit, but in my restaurant days I hired cute girls for counter help because they'd draw more traffic (seriously, the company had charts and graphs to back this up and amazingly never got sued for it). Yet the most effective cashier I ever hired was a mousy looking paraplegic girl who could run everyone else into the ground and she did so with leg braces on. Add to that my best dining room attendant was mentally retarded.

If I'd hewn to the company line and only hired pretty people I'd have missed out on these folks and they would have unfairly missed a job opportunity.

Yea, but that is you being a smart employer. Anyone who is dumb enough to only go after for looks for the sake of being surrounded by pretty people deserves to fail miserably.

Funny, when I was in school I found myself turned off by the 'beautiful' girls because after you got past their looks all you found was...nothing. They were terribly self-involved and, IMHO, they were too enamored of themselves to ever be able to love someone else.
