Socialism is so great is't it?

Poorest children in the country. High paid city workers and police. Let's stiff everyone another $700 so it can be mismanaged, swindled and stolen.

Here they force us to pay $45 a year taxes to support a rebroadcast society. In order to get 37 digital TV channels, only 4 of which are movie & HBO and a dozen FM radio stations you have to buy a $9 set of rabbit ears at the Dollar Store.
Why should I have to pay so everyone else can get a deal. You can get that on satellite or cable for only about $10 a year! It's communism!

One of my public services over the years has been to provide my Canadian friends and acquaintances the use of my Post Office box in Sacramento as a billing address for their DISH Network satellite service.

They buy the equipment and etc. and then set it up themselves...in Canada.

Most of them are on the plan for 250 channels and then they also get the option for HBO ($10 per month) or Starz ($5 per month).

All told, the charges run about $50 to $120 per month depending on what you want.

And the CBC doesn't get one fuckin' dime of it.

Only posted that because someone actually stood up at a town hall and made that complaint! No one responded, we were all facepalming. As you said, even just HBO is $10 a month, not $10 a year.
Trouble with all services is that they're all within a dollar or so of each other (like cell) here. DISH has just about gone, asides from the PITA of a US postbox, 75c dollars have made it uncompetitive. Don't even know anyone with hacked ones anymore.

CBC doesn't ask for money, Bell, Shaw, the cable outfits, SiriusXM carry that free. Hell, they should give us money: our rebroadcaster picked it up when their system went down in Central BC years ago and the Harper cutbacks didn't cover going digital.

It was a reaction to the taxes thing, shit look at all those services people want they have on their bill. In Vancouver God knows what you get dinged for transit, etc. I know my sister in the Fraser Valley pays more for just in water taxes than we do for
everything here upcountry, and in the last 10 years even here water, sewer, garbage is a separate bill double what I pay in property tax.
I know unless I win LottoMax, I can never move back. With the property costs in the main cities you could buy a lot here in town for what they pay in basic property tax. Read of subdivision going u all around some Grannie's hobby farm and suddenly she's rezoned and somehow supposed to come up with $25,000 a year tax out of her pension.
