Curtman Curtman:
They were allowed to vote.

You get to vote on pot prohibition!

One catch, you got to do it in Ottawa, and you need to be there tomorrow.

By the way, you need to register 24 hours in advance to appear on the voting list.

Now, don't bitch when you don't get the outcome you want, we 'allowed' you to vote.

If the vote for chief of Attawapiskat was held in Ottawa that would be very unfair, you'd have a point.

Yes they were, it's just that their votes weren't counted unless they made the trek to Attiwapiskat personally.

It'd be like telling people that as a Canadian Citizen living abroad or out of your home town, that you can't vote in our Federal Election unless you fly home, register, and vote in your home riding.

Which, BTW would mean all the Military members or foreign affairs personnel serving abroad would be denied their democratic right, shut in's wouldn't be allowed to exercise that right because they couldn't get to the poll and people who didn't change their electoral riding when they moved would be excluded.

So I guess in this case the Term First Nation should be changed to First Municipality or First Village to properly reflect the voting rules and regulations of Attiwapiskat.

Attawapiskat has a military?

Which candidate do you believe would have been elected if off-reserve mail-in ballots were allowed? Lets try it that way.

Given the fact that more of the people who were allowed to, voted for someone else, I'd say it probably wouldn't have been her.

But who cares because anything you or I say is supposition which doesn't change the fact that the intent of democracy as defined by the Supreme Court in their ruling was quietly subverted and they weren't allowed to.

i'm afraid you're going to have to back up that assertion about murdering, otherwise we'll have to call bullshit on it.

Well most of my search got me to sites that want money... I'm not that ivested in the debate to pay for info. One site did something weird to commputer so them I had to bug IT (read my kid). So I guess bullshit has been called on the play there are flags all over the field.

Still not sure why murdering would upset you it was the 1700 and women were second class citizens at best or chaddel. Given all the wonderful storeies about loving families and there loving treatment of their family in todays news. And if you remember I did say protect first...

And if you are going to tell me that anyone in authority would give a tinkers dam if a Native man was killed in the 1700 or 1800 heck even in the 1900 the GAFF wasn't really there. Then I will start throughing flags.

Yep, seems pretty fair to those living hundreds of miles way from a community that has only one way in.

I don't see why they couldn't accept mail-in ballots. I don't know how many planes fly there in a day, maybe they could schedule the election around mail delivery. It does seem strange to bring the issue up two days before the election though.

Bingo.

Had the Band Council done that we wouldn't have needed this conversation, no matter who won or who lost. It would have been a total Band decision and not just the remaining Band members living in Attiwapiskat who made the decision.

Next time start the conversation early enough that something can be done about it.

The last time they set out to do this, nobody cared.
