Saying or not, it doesn't really make sense.

Who said it had to make sense? It's a friggan phrase not a philosophical point of thought.

No, we still say God damn it. We just have no expectations that he or she will actually do it.

Why would you want something you don't believe exists to curse something? Kinda doesn't makes sense, right?

It's because it's a saying.

I've got plenty of non Christian friends who say 'Jesus Christ!' when they're pissed off. Often it's 'Jesus f'in Christ!'.

Now,now Tman, it's like the term "fiddlesticks." Everyone knows it should never be used by anyone except a qualified Scottish musician.

I see it as an explicative that I have grown up with, if I grew up in Egypt or Tibet I am sure that it would be different.

Hmm...well Maritimes bad weather isn't exactly the same as BC bad weather, and the argument can be made that the more caught up "West Coast" is worse with the heavy crime, gang, and drug abuse, among many other things.

Spending a few years living in New Brunswick was rather interesting experience, if I say so myself. One of the nicest, friendliest people you'll ever meet. Hell, drivers will literally stop to let you jaywalk.

Ever lived on the westcoast?....think we are all gang bangers?

Maybe not point so much as thought. It seems odd to invoke the name of someone/thing you don't even believe in in order to curse.

Can I say a word and not believe in it but still mean it?

Cursing has nothing to do with belief. It’s for shock value. If I say “god damn it” or “shit”, it’s all the same to be. It’s a form of swearing, not an affirmation of the tooth fairy.

It's jus part of the languge. At home I have a habit of saying "fantastic," in a sarcastic tone if I'm frustrated by something. My toddler picked it up, and she says it now (but it comes out more like "fantaskit!") when she's frustrated.

I don't understand why athiests would bother advertising at all.
What is the point? If life just came out of nothing and has no purpose, then why would it matter at all?

Who said life doesnt matter? [huh]

I find it the exact opposite, with no afterlife I cherish almost every day. Why would theists need to stop Atheists from advertising, if God didnt want it wouldn’t he stop them through supernatural means?

Why does life matter?
Why do atheists care what others think about life?
Why must "God" use supernatural means?

It just seems like a pretty useless debate here. Christians are doctrinally instructed to evangelize, so while I would not use advertisements on buses as my battleground, I understand their impulse to combat this. It all seems a bit silly, and unlikely to change anyone's minds anyway.
