If only his co-worker and the civilians shot had CCW's, none of this would have happened.

Yeah, yer gonna shoot NYC police officers.

Wow, this gets interesting. So people with CCW have let a cop shoot them? Anyway, one of these civilian shooters would have just taken out the bad guy, since we know that civilian shooters only hit the target they're aiming at, unlike the cops.

The "bad guy" shot 1 guy. The cops were quickly there to shoot "the bad guy". AND 9 civilians. Who was there left to shoot at other than the cops? You think the people with CCW would have been quick enough to shoot "the bad guy" so the cops shouldn't have to anymore? The cops would have shot you. NYPD doesn't ask questions before they shoot when there's a shooting...

New York City, along with Washington DC and Chicago, expressly prohibit CCW permits.

Is that so the police don't have to worry about being shot back at when shooting innocent bystanders? 8O

In a situation such as that I presume that a citizen with a permit would've followed the directions given by the first cop on scene by dropping the gun and raising their hands. Cops usually don't go into a crowded and unknown situation by blazing away.

I would certainly hope so, FOR THEM.

The cops didn't go in with guns blazing in either of those situations.

It's funny how terrible overall many police forces are at pistol shooting.

SOP in NYC is to go into crowded and unknown situations blazing away.

I think the main reason that CCW is essentially banned in NYC is so that the citizens are kept as easier targets by the cops.

It's a condition that is peculiar to cities/states that favor gun control. This is because those localities (and their states) have made it near impossible for gun shops and shooting ranges to operate. Thus the cops can only practice at appointed times and then only on police property. On their off hours they have no practice facilities around and then the cops have also been subjected to the same limitations as citizens when trying to purchase their own guns.

Notice that no such problems take place in places like Texas, Arizona, Wyoming, Nevada, and etc.

I wouldn't be able to comment to that.

I think it might be hard to justify the cost of training the police to a level of high competence with pistols. A police force doesn't have an unlimited amount of money, so they can't do everything to a high degree.

Maybe the police should be given longer two handed smgs as a blanced point between a carbine or a pistol. Having the extra lenght, greater weight, and the wider grip would all help keep shots on target.

I found this pretty unnecessary too... Just sayin (Michigan)
http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/16/us/michig ... index.html

Over 40 shots necessary to bring a knife wielder down? Come on now.

I agree with the relative; that was a firing squad.

Note that the police are witholding the video saying that the video cameras in multiple police cars were not working.

Uh-huh. Right.

If the department doesn't come clean, and soon, then at some point there'll be a Federal civil rights lawsuit and the cops will be looking at being guests of the Federal government for a while.
