All things aside. Do you think we are? What could that mean for Canada? Our oil industry and trade? Our Afghanistan mission? How concerned are you?
Just trying to understand and make sense of things.
Thanks.

While wall street has once again fu&$ed up royally, their population still controls a vast amount of the worlds wealth, so word of their demise is greatly exagerated.
The sad part of this whole scenario, is that the American taxpayers are going to have to fork over on average $2300 each to keep the greedy Wall St bastards afloat so the country (and the world) doesn't go into a recession.

America went through the Great Depression and emerged stronger than ever. I don't think they're in any real danger. What does it mean for Canada? Well, thansk to our policies adn teh fact that we've tied ourselves to them, we'll definately be sinking with them, albeit slower... As for Oil and Trade, one word...China. The Afghanistan mission will still continue until our withdrawal date. So how concerned am I? Not terribly...

Looking around the net, I'm starting to see people panic. They are getting angry, upset and scared and talking about taking their money out of various institutions. That's why I asked. Not sure the big wigs are handling things very well.
Thanks for the responces so far.

I am not too concerned about it, although I would rather America keep its strength. Because although I am a Anti-American. If there is anybody I would rather trade with, and partner with. It would be America, and Americans as we pretty much are the same and have close ties for a hell of a long time.
However the good thing of it would be if the United States were to collapse, it would benefit Canada in the long run in my opinion. It would definetly take our economy for a ride with them, but as soon as we found other trading partners. Our economy will be up again. Along with the fact that most of the jobs were in America, expecially aerospace jobs. You can't get a aerospace engineer job because Canada no longer has them, although they use to. All of those jobs are sourced to America.
If America collapsed, Canada can finally just do things itself and stop being a support system for America. We can finally re-open those old jobs we use to have, more Canadians can have jobs and would further increase the Canadian Economy. Basicly switching positions with the United States. Refining all our resources ourselves, then selling them to other countries or using it instead of depending on the U.S. to do it.
Though if that ever happened, I would garantee that as soon as America got jump started again. The future Canadian Politicians will be at work again selling Canada to America. One job at a time, and one resource at a time.

No. The United States is enormously strong, dynamic and resilient.
This could be bad but America has gone through worse before.

Thanks for the responces so far. And that is a very interesting observation. Thanks. Its why politicians are trying to fix the rot.

You have to wonder if the media is making things worse, scaring folks? What aweful timing, during an election. It will be tough for people to think straight if they are scared.

Maybe. Could be the begining, but I think if it is it will take a few decades before it becomes a fact.

I think they are under reporting the situation. My brother can't get money out of his bank now because WaMu just failed.

Actually there are a few banks limiting what you can take out because they are afraid of a run on their banks.
Woodforest Bank for one. Max $300 unless you give them 24 hour warning.

No. This is another "correction" and another lesson to governments not to screw around with a free market. By letting banks loan to anyone breathing let the wolf inside the pigs house and the result is some piggies are going to get eaten.

Giving loans to people who can not afford them, basically got the U.S. into this mess. Risky loans.. I guess we can all agree on this right? So the Democrats wanted to provide 50 billion more of tax payers money to that same company that gave out the risky loans... Acron. http://www.acorn.orgThat is one of the main reason the Republicans walked out, the Democrats tried to load it with pork and tried to give money to Obama's old "organization." http://www.thenation.com/blogs/campaign ... pid=289192
