I could see the world ripping us off again, just like the Alaskan Panhandle...

I remember hearing about this treaty, and many of those 152 countries agree that the waters are ours.

But the United States again thinks they can easily pry something of ours from our hands again....

God.... It feels like being used as a fucking tool. We are here to give to America?

Pretty much because no one in this country will bother to stand up for themselves. Now we lose our territory.

I blame ourselves mostly we are the one allowing this to go on and this dispute has gone on for decades and we have yet bothered to do anything about it. If I were America I would just take it since we obviously cannot handle maintaining our own sovereignty.

It mostly comes down to two points that I've discussed before:

1) Canada is a signatory to the treaty and can easily resolve the issue by withdrawing from the treaty. This would also resolve the issue of the Northwest Passage which, frankly, is far more important than this issue.

2) Canada does not have significant military assets in the region to assert her sovereignty. If it isn't the USA challenging you today, it'll be China, Japan, France, Russia, Denmark, or etc. tomorrow. Canada still needs a first-class presence in the region to show the flag. Absent your military presence there someone else will be happy to step in.

Makes me think the Conservatives are the only one who want to ensure our sovereignty in the Arctic, but people still say that Harper is Bush's puppy.

That'd be a real funny thing, wouldn't it?

Canada would have a US born PM who is pro-Canadian military, pro-Canadian sovereignty, anti-internationalist so far as national sovereignty is concerned, deeply conservative, and deeply anti-socialist.

I'd also not be afraid to knock heads in Parliament.

I honestly don't know if Canada could handle that.

Let's say it happened.

English would be the official language of the nation. Period. Native land claims would be over and done. The Navy would have three carriers, six icebreaking cruisers, and a dozen nuclear attack subs. The Army would have 1,000 MBTs all made in Canada. The Air Force would have 100 to 200 assorted fighters, interceptors, and ground attack aircraft.

And if the US nosed into Canadian territory I'd be the first PM to travel to Washington and punch out a President.

I was sold on the pro-Canadian military. :) You should run for office you would do a better job than the ones in there now. You also can legally run for it since you don't have to be born here to be Prime minister.

I'd vote for you in a heartbeat. :D

However, I don't mind the two official languages thing. Just get the frogs to shut up about seperation and I'll be in eternal bliss.
