another example of what I am seeing more often within our institutions. No one is perfect but some of the crap the SCC has been ruling or not ruling in this case is unbelievable.

I agree with riden, but this is not going to be fixed by either the Liberals or the Conservatives, but I don't purport to believe the NDP would either.

This is simply symptomatic of a public that has been placated by modest prosperity and has forgotten how to demand better.

The code of silence in police forces is not limited to the RCMP. Just about every city police force in this country does this too.

It's too bad that the rules only exist for civilians and not for everyone.

I think it is more than that.

The court system needs to be reformed and also the RCMP really needs to clean itself up as an organisation. Although lucky for me I live in one of the few cities in British Columbia that does not contract our police force to the RCMP.

Of course it has nothing to do with the organization itself, but certainly shows that it houses all types.

It does reflect on the organization when it refuses to hold itself to a higher standard than the general population. I agree with Hurley and I agree with Hwacker.
Crap like this shakes the trust, in whe whole enforcement industry.

Now would a group of RCMP's who are to report not to the head of the RCMP but say to an oversight commity help. These RCMP's would have the soul job of basically investigating the police. Going over how the rookies are trained all the way up to what goes on. They would have been the ones investigating the irregularities of the immigration deal not this poor CPL.

Their having to be answerable to the commity and not the Head of the RCMP would help from having undo pressure and self serving influence interfere with investigations.

This is just a thought and in no ways 100% perfect but would be far better then the current system.

This started in 1996. Smack dab in the middle of the friendly dictator, Chretien's rule of sleaze. No bloody wonder. This got turfed allong with the Sidewinder investigation on China.
