You stayed in Hotels, didn't you? If you had a utilities bill, you could vote. If you pay taxes, why not!

Thanos Thanos:
Did my vote tonight at one of the advance polls. Not gonna say who I voted for except for one thing. I took at least five minutes to make up my mind at the station. What finally tipped it was that goddamn godawful 'look in the mirror' comment Prentice made last month. It came into my mind and, while I know that decisions made in anger usually aren't the best ones to make, I got filled with rage. Through no fault of my own I lost my house, which was pretty much the only asset I had. I don't know where my career is, or if I even have one anymore, because no one seems to know when (or if) the work situation will ever pick up. I pay my taxes like the good little drone I am, yet in the time of the worst crisis I've ever had in my entire life there's no program at all to help anyone like me. But there was $30 million available for this fucking unnecessary and unneeded election. And Mr. Harper the other day just found another $140 million to give to the assholes in Afghanistan.

So I cast my ballot and said 'please forgive me' for what I chose. All I know is that after the last thirty years of voting for conservatives, both big-C and little-c, I have absolutely nothing at all to show for it. I'm worse off now than I was when I was twenty, and I don't have any more years left in which to recover from all the damage that's been done. But, as for any politician that tells me to look in the fucking mirror, like the mess those good ol' boy assholes made out of everything is somehow all my fault? Well fuck all of you right to hell and let the heavens fall. Screw me over and leave me with nothing? If the only bit of spite I can aim at you for your graft, grift, greed, malice, and good ol' boy back-patting is to vote against you from now on in then you can absolutely fucking ensure that is exactly what's going to happen.

The important thing is that you voted, not who you voted for. I can guess which party you voted for and I doubt it will make a difference anyways. Sadly, too many sheep in the province will vote for the PCs and they will probably get a minority government (at least).

I'm stuck in the same pickle you are - I don't know who to vote for. Right now, I'm thinking Liberal just because it's as close to the centre as possible without rewarding the Party of Cronies yet again and not as far left as the NDP, some of whose policies are worrisome.

As for your current situation, things will change for the better, they always do. You're just in the seven years of famine part of your life right now. Maybe it's time to consider something new - I think Rick suggested radio host (I think NAIT has a 1 year program)...lord knows you couldn't do any worse than the current crop of bozos we have here in Alberta now.

The Elections Alberta website is USELESS for finding out where I vote. I'm sure I know, because it's always the same place, but you never know when the PCs will pull a DelMaestro and change the venue just to mess with people.

Wonder if the polls are right. Hard to believe to be frank, but I'm not there, so not sure what the general feeling is.

People do want change, but I doubt that many will swing that far left to vote NDP.

Vote splitting may affect some seats, but it cuts both ways because there are 3 left of centre parties and 2 right of centre parties.

I simply don't think that the NDP are going to win any rural seats and given their weakness in Calgary, the numbers say they can't form a government here.

Unsound Unsound:
I'm still undecided. NDP and Wild Rose are the only viable candidates in my riding, and after looking over both their platforms I have the same problem with both. All kinds of great sounding ideas very little in the way of real information on how they'll be implemented and paid for.

Maybe I'll just vote for old Tommy Boy. Tom Lukaszuk from the PCs. He's good for a laugh at least.

Fucking annoying elections with no good options.

Well, you can always vote Liberal - Ross won't get in and you won't have to compromise too much...Lukaszuk lost my vote when he asked Mandel, "Who pissed in your corn flakes?"

I get that he's a passionate guy and closer to us common folk than some other politicians, but in my book, you have to maintain a little decorum when you're an MLA.

A parties policies are never how they actually govern. Harper had to move to the left right quick during the recession, and found he just can't pull Canada that sharply to the right. He's had to learn a lot of patience in order to implement his agenda. In the same way, once an NDP govt gets into power, the fiscal realities stare them in the face as every social group comes to them with their hands out. In BC the NDP initiated the welfare cuts that the Liberals continued, and generally did a lot of things that pissed off their far left supporters. Manitoba was well managed by the NDP. It would do your province good to have an NDP govt - doesn't mean they are in for ever. Better to swing left then right then left again to find the middle, than just keeping one party in power for ever. Doesn't matter which party it is, the longer they are in, the more entitled and corrupt they get.

Its interesting that those blaming Albertans for their on-going problems by voting PC, didn't offer the same condemnation of Ontario for re-electing the Liberals. They've done far more harm to Ontario in a far shorter time period than the PC's have done to Alberta.

I don't know about that.

Has Ontario squandered $300 billion in resource revenues over the past 40 years (adjusted for inflation)?

Built up an infrastructure deficit in the tens of billions while claiming it was debt free?

Refused to set aside a penny of savings in the past 30 years when it could have easily done so?

I'd argue that many of Ontario's economic problems are based on the fact that its biggest industry - manufacturing - is moving out of the country to places like Mexico and China.

Alberta's is still here and while we have boom/bust cycles to deal with, the biggest problem is the politicians who are too gutless to make sure Alberta doesn't just rely on resource revenues to fund its services. They'd rather go through crisis after crisis when the price of oil falls than actually charge Albertans the true cost of their services.

Also, Ontario has tried voting every which way, they didn't drink one parties bathwater for 44 years. Seems that Ontario's problems are something not party fixed, or was able to fix, to the satisfaction of the electorate. In Alberta the majority thought the govt was just peachy keen for a long time, as long as oil revenues were there to spend with nary a thought about tomorrow.

But, both governments are dealing with factors that are beyond their control. What people should expect from their governments is the honest truth about that - but they'd rather keep voting for governments that promise them sweet nothings. In that, doesn't matter left or right, voters are all the same.

If you look at the depression, that seemed to smarten people up. We built societies that recognized you don't just leave people on the bottom to flounder, you don't degrade labor to keep wages low, you share the profits of production with everybody. Didn't take communism to do it, just socially inclusive policies, and look at how well things worked after WWII. Then the greed hogs got busy, wasn't good enough for them, and they started chipping away at this more egalitarian society. People got fat and wanted more fat, and fuck your neighbor. "There's no society" And here we are.

I tried my postal code, it said that another location uses that code, try your address. Tried my (rural) address. It said 'not found, try your land description!'. Who in holy hell remembers their land description?

Tried their 'latitude' option, got 'you must wait 5 seconds before retrying this'.

Gave up, and called a neighbour and asked if they saw signs in front of the school, like always. Yep. Have to drive past on my way home anyhow. I'll just take 5 and vote. [B-o]

We can't vote online, but we can go to a Legion Hall and vote without showing any ID what so ever. Hand them your voter card, recite your address and your in. [B-o]
