This is something I've actively done something about. Years ago I drove the wheel-trans for a short time. One time I was picking someone up at a Tim Hortons and some dickweed parked his nice red sports car in the handicapped spot by the ramp.
I went in to look for the owner and found him sitting at a table. When I told him he was in a handicap spot and that I needed to park there, he had the nerve to ask if I could wait til he finished his coffee. My response was , "How much you wanna fuckin' bet I can get your car towed before you finish it." He became quite co-operative and moved his car right away.

Another time I was picking up at a medical centre and some some asswipe parked his Cadillac in the handicap spot. I made extra sure he didn't have a permit before I blocked him in, dropped the ramp and shut off the van to go get my passenger.
As I'm coming out, I notice him standing there waiting. As I walked by, I looked at him and shook my head.
The moron actually had the nerve to ask why I shook my head at him. My response was, "If you have to ask, you're even more fucking ignorant than I thought!"

In both cases the handicap parking was clearly marked including signage.

I never park in the disabled spot, but what really annoys me is people using that spot WITH a permit while there is nothing wrong with them. They have that permit on that car because their mom/dad/partner or whatever has a right to it, but they are not with them. STILL parking in the disabled spot.

Man I normally park way the heck in the back of the parking lot away from all the other cars. I can't count how many dings and dents I have on my truck from other people hitting my trucks with their doors or shopping carts.

I don't why some people are so damn lazy that they have to be right by the front door and in some cases taking up handicapped spots.

Mind you I'd like to know where this is happening. I can't see any excuse for it in a large parking lot but here in Calgary they have some extremely stupid parking regulations that restrict the number of stalls allowed. I'll bet a lot of these cases are in areas where there isn't enough parking made available in the first place. If that’s the case municipalities should really re-exam their parking regulations.

I take it you're referring to the "family" parking spots. I think they're a good idea especially in the winter when the snow and ice make it hard to push a stroller around.

Personally I've found that the distance I have to carry my kids in my arms is directly proportional to how heavy and squirmy they are. I've got no problem with letting moms who are carting around two or three young kids park closer.

Wheelchair bound? Was she carrying twin hippos?

My wife is all of 5 feet and 110 pounds and she never had a need for special parking. I've had several knee operations that required the use of crutches for several months and no special parking. Sorry folks, but just because one is pregnant or has a couple of kids doesn't warrant special needs.
