in response to consumers' decreasing demand for heavier vehicles

Yeah because politicians can make businesses change the way they do things and can also make people buy stuff they dont want...get a grip on reality!!!

$1:
The Daimler plant closure is timed to coincide with the expiration of the company's agreement with the Canadian Auto Workers Union.

I was hoping you would open your ignorant little yap. This same company bought the Western Star truck plant in Kelowna in 2001. They promptly built a new plant in Oregon and moved all 1200 jobs out of Kelowna. Guess what the Liberals did? Sweet fuck all.

The CAW has single handedly destroyed the big 3 in Canada.

Honda and Toyota are expanding in Ontario. I wonder why?

There has been a downturn in Canadian trucking coinciding with the downturn in the US economy. 80% of our exports go to the US and most of that is by truck. Less sales to the US = less need for Class 8 vehicles. The smaller trucks are only used for P&D. For low cost hauling on the highway the prefered equipment is a long combination of up to 38 meters.

Actually Kenmore, it's a sad day.

It's sad for those employee's and their families that now face uncertainty in an already declining economy.

It does show that the Conservatives globalization of Canada economy is not working, as since the agreement with the Union is now done these jobs most certainly will be moved to China or Mexico where the labor is 1/20th of that Canadian worker.

The NDP wanted to scrape NAFTA and start protecting Canadian manufacturing jobs and work on FAIR trade agreements.
