Gunnair Gunnair: Yep, I could by a Dodge Neon but if I can afford it, I'll opt for the Toyota Camry any day. Wow Gunnair I didn't realize you were such a fan of beige. Is your idea of a crazy night out having TWO cups of warm milk? But back to the topic, Apple has nothing on Texas Instruments. A TI-89 still costs over $100 USD.

I have a newer Ipod touch, but I never waited in line endlessly for it. I weighed my options with mp3 players, and the Ipod touch fit my needs. It's the only Apple product I own, and I'm okay with that. These people that line the streets to buy Apple products are only there to be the first (or one the firsts) to get it, or have more money than brains and want it just to say they have one.

Don't blame the cigarette companies... blame the smokers Don't blame the dealers... blame the users
Don't blame Apple... blame the consumers who are willing to pay more, buy the newer modal when the one they have is still perfectly good and wait in line for a couple of days for the privilege of being the first to have it

No but it will be two pints of local craft beer over a couple of Buds or two glasses of an Okanagan Merlot over a couple glasses of Night train.

I don't think you'll find too many tech reviews that don't admit that one of the reason you pay more for Apple is because of better quality hardware.

I have no idea what the price/quality ratio of Apple products is, Gun. Just take my post in the spirit it was written, damn you.

Lemmy Lemmy: PluggyRug PluggyRug: When I ran my computer business I had dealings with Apple.
The largest bunch of jumped-up-never-come-downs you would never wish to meet.
They wanted my company to put up $50,000 and promise not to service any other brand of system. Just for the dubious right to service their Mac's, which would have been approx' 1% of my operation. Later they dropped their ridiculous demands, but it was too little to late. Devil's Advocate: And how, since then, has your business fared compared to Apple? Would you concede that Apple has been a more successful business than yours? Survival of the fittest. Isn't that how the business world's supposed to work? I'm sure I've heard conservatives say that before. So you cheer for a winner in the free-market as long as they aren't winning against you? I sold the business 5 years ago. It's still going very well but I would say Apple has done better. Most of my (ex) business is in setting up large networks and not in retail sales. Any desktops we supply are based ASUS parts which we assemble and configure. All parts are sourced from smaller suppliers similar to herbie. Cannot strictly compare to the Apple operation. The beef we had with Apple was their far to strict "authorised dealer" policies and their unfriendly staff.

Which way shall we take the thread this morning?

I'll put in a way you can clearly understand.
The Camry is boring. A B-O-R-I-N-G appliance for people with absolutely no interest in cars or driving. It's the perfect car for accountants and insurance salesmen.

You aren't paying for any better parts than you get in a regular PC. You're not paying for better build quality, you aren't paying for a better experience. You're paying for an idiot proof eco system where no one can get themselves into any trouble because Apple has locked down so much of the OS a lot of users like myself can't do what they want without violating terms of agreements and voiding warranties. Also, I hate apple for its lying, its dirty tactics, and its awful human rights record. Lots of other companies are just as bad in one or two areas, but Apple has the trifecta going on.

You've opted to drive by and play the prick for some reason since offering anything of substance would have been too much effort for your lazy ass. Kinda what I thought.

You don't strike me as a guy who buys all his stuff locally so I doubt it's the moral issues you really have because Apple is hardly alone in being a company with a questionable record, but more likely just a personal dislike. That's fine but not everyone seems to agree with you.

That's fine but not everyone seems to agree with you. There is a difference between questionable record, and having nothing positive on the companies books. And if people don't agree with me, that's fine, but that doesn't mean I'm not right. Apple's products are no more "better quality" than all the other products in the same, or even lower price range. People pay for and get shiny, that's about it.
