I guess it's about time to retire my old 19" CRT and go for an LCD. I want to try to minimize the amount of space my puter setup is using. I have an antique 'Secretaries Desk' That will work just fine for an LCD monitor on top and I can fit the keyboard inside when not in use. I won't have to modify the desk at all.
Locally, I have good old 'WallyWorld' to shop at for electronics. They have 2 choices in a 22". Acer or Soyo. They are priced within about $25.00 of each other.
I would like to hear from anyone who has either brand or experience with either. Is one any better than the other? Should I forget about these two and wait until I go into the city and get something else? If so, what should I be looking for? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

I have a 22" Acer LCD and have not regretted buying it.
Got rid of the 19"crt and opened up a lot of space on the comp desk.
Monitor was easy to setup, and fit the budget.
One other thing when you get your new LCD, buy a proper cleaning kit or towelettes to keep screen clean.
Friend made a mistake and used windex(what a noob!!)wrecked the screen.
Good luck on your choice.

Thanks for the tips Chips!

Seriously, I most likely would have used windex as well. I'll be sure to get OEM cleaning kit.

So I went for the Acer X223W. It's not as nice looking as the Soyo as far as cabinet design goes but I am happy with the overall look. Manufacturer recomends 1680x1050 resolution but my puter will only support up to 1400x900. Problem with the higher res. is that I damn near need binoculars to read any text. Right now setting is 1024x768. I'll still play around with it but it looks pretty good now so if I can't get it any better, I'm ok with it the way it is. Any suggestions?

I found too, that if I used a high resolution you needed a magnifying glass to see things.
I left mine on 1024x768, seems to be a good in between for everyone in my house.
I'd stick to what your comfortable with.

I have a 22" @ 1680x1050. Text looks good, as long as Clear Type is turned on.

What kind of video card do you have?

I love the extra real estate that higher resolutions provide. I'll have my browser sized to have the screen and then have a streaming hockey game(sometimes 2) on the other side.

On a slightly related side note, if you happen to notice dried glue(not sure exactly what kind) smeared across the bottom of your lcd monitor with sparkles sprinkled in it and are reluctant to use any chemical to remove it, I semi-successfully removed most of the glue so that is is only a bit noticable by using a razor blade and keeping the angle very small, gently scraping it off.

 I would like to thank my kids for another learning moment.

I would kill for a monitor like game, and a top of the line gaming rig. Bought some new games and it seems my PC is starting to meet it's match as games keep getting more detailed and advanced.
