Parts got in today slapped together a Ryzen5 3600 6core 12 thread with 16GB DDR3200 a 256GB NVMe SSD and a hand me down GTX950 video card.
Win 10 install took only about 10 minutes... boots up in 19 seconds, installed Affinity Publisher in like 10 seconds...
From an ancient X2 255 (cpubenchmark 1094) to a benchmark just under 18,000 she just flies. And to think that old X2, tweaked and decrappified was faster than 75% of customer computers that come in.........

Which NVMe SSD? Not all are created equal!

I have 2 Samsung 970 Pro's in stripe mode, and my 16 core 32 thread Threadripper boots into Linux is less than 7 seconds. (from the logo screen)

Things have improved since your old X2, amirite? ;)

Had to reimage it right out of the box to kill off the bloatware, added a 4TB second drive from my old computer, and still need to install some additional fans.

Runs great but a little on the hot side.

The video output is awesome!

I've got 48GB (6x8) of Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM and a 6GB Nvidia GeForce video card left over from the old machine.

Adata NVMe, rated 3500. Bought it on the price to be upgraded later. Like the Gigabyte mobo, two empty RAM slots for future. Was going to reuse an ancient SATA SSD.... but for $60 WTH. Glad I did.
Did a clean Windows install rather than a clone disk, so today I get to reinstall all my software and add in the old TB data drive.
For what I do, it's massive overkill. I also have a mobo - plugin adapter for 3.5" drives hanging out the back. Rescuing pix and dox from old dead systems is a big part of my work.
That picture of grandson planting his face in the birthday cake is just SO important!

That RAM is a touch too slow, Bart. But I guess when you have 64Gb of it, it doesn't really matter.

The 16GB of Optane more than offsets any slowness on RAM

I bet the old motherboard was only SATA 2... even the old spinner drive is faster!

Oh well, it's now a $100 Buy&Sell special. The old SSD will Berryboot the Pi soon enough.

Let me know how the 3600 runs. I'm planning on upgrading my system and was torn between a 3600 and a 3600X. But after watching a couple of comparison video's they say there isn't much difference but the price so I'm still trying to make my mind up which one to go with.

That's what it boiled down to, the 3600X was damn near $100 more for $5 worth of performance boost.
