What kind of ideas can we come up with to get more listeners? I've maxed out at 9 and at one time, 12. Nowadays, it's more like 1 or 2.

I think the scrolling "live" ticker is a great idea but it doesn't seem to be drawing people in to listen.

Well, I'll start doing my shows completely naked... that'll bring them in!

Seriously, though, I think people have gotten over the novelty, so it's going to be tricky now...

Maybe if we had music playing even when nobody was DJing... some sort of autopilot, that would shut off when a DJ came along, and start up when he/she finished. The playlist would be some sort of generic, popular music, that would get people in the habit of tuning in.

I think the issues with people not being able to hear it when it's on need to be resolved, first of all, though.

Maybe our shows could become podcasts that people can download to their players and listen to them whenever they like. The podcast would be available for download for maybe a week. Not sure of the legal ramifications though.

To the best of my understanding, it's ok if the music you broadcast is music that you already own. For example, if you rip a CD onto your PC so you can listne to it on itunes, that's ok. I don't know how it would apply in this case though.

to be honest, I wouldn't downlaod a podcast. I'll only listen to the CKA Radio when I'm surfing or working on my computer. I already have music I want to listen to on my players.

It's too bad that one of the original ideas of talk shows never panned out. Then, a podcast would be in order.

Itunes should work.

I think the biggest problem by far is that most of the time there is just dead air. Need to get more dj's to fill up the time slots or figure out an automation system to play music when a DJ is not there.

any thoughts on how to draw non-members to the station? Is the station posted in directories elsewhere? This could be a win-win situation.

Not everyone is fortunate enough to own all the music they want to listen to.

Also, people are not always in the mood or able to listen to whats playing. I got almost 2 hours of drive time to work and back where I'd be able to listen to Newfie's show. Can't really do it during his time slot because the computer is in a common area of the house and listening with headphones is out of the question -- not going to ignore my family for Megadeath.

Many members are student's and could listen to our shows on the bus, while studying during a spare period etc.

And if I knew how many people were d/l my show I'd put together more of a show such as Canadian concert listings, current news, band history etc.

As it is now I get 0 -2 listeners at 8am and the few times I was wanting to broadcast on the weekend the site was down... :(
