junk yard no more than 10 bucks the old one should just pop out and the new one should snap right back in.Do not take it to a professional...they will soak your ass for a hundred bucks and laugh at you as soon as you leave.

Shouldn't be that hard to replace . Look for a parts and repair manual for all your vehicles usually Haynes Manuals will do the trick , and then head down to your local junk yard it is rare you have to look any further because they are all connected . Hopefully your junk yard won't be ordering the part from far away and has one on hand because shipping can get a little expensive . Most of the time you have to remove the door panel to get at the mirror to unmount for dissembly and resembly but its rather easy to do especially with a manual .

if it is just the glass ...you wont have to do any wiring...just pop the broken glass out it will have a plastic backing on it with prongs that fit right in to the mirror housing....take it with you to the junk yard find the same year of chev and pop the good one out the same as you did the broken one.
As for the bad luck you will have to rub goat urine on your head a spin in a circle three times....it's an old hoo doo trick.

Banff it's just the glass in the side mirror not the whole housing i think...or at least thats how it sounds to me.

All you have to do is go to an Auto glass shop. They`ll replace just the mirror itself for 10or 15 bucks.
