Many blogs are reporting that question period was new and invigorated with answers to questions. Who would have thought. Even a bit of humor:
$1: OTTAWA (CP) - Call Stephen Harper what you will, but don't call him a Conservative Casanova.
The prime minister was quick to correct a New Democrat MP who accused him today of "seducing" former Liberal David Emerson into switching parties. Harper reminded the House of Commons that his reputation is that of a bookish loner rather than a hot-blooded lothario.
"I don't think I've ever been accused of seducing anyone, even my wife," he told chortling MPs.
The observation brought howls of laughter from his wife, Laureen, who was watching her husband's first question period as prime minister.
Her reaction did not escape the eye of her husband, who commented: "I see there's some agreement in the gallery there."

Thats what you've been waiting for? That's your definition of real answers?

Maybe we'll get more real questions now anyway. The Conservatives were too busy taking cheap political shots to bother with real questions when they were in opposition.
I thought Harper did very well yesterday, though. He was quick with the answers and appeared almost human a couple of times. There wasn't much heat on him though. It was like the first day back at school, with everybody in their new clothes trying to figure out the new teacher. I expect that will change.

See if you can get him to answer this question. Stephen Harper's position on crime is aimed at a problem that is already in decline, uses measures that have been proved ineffective, and imposes more costs on the taxpayer.
It looks as if we have the Conservatives at the helm again!

Robert Fife: "The Liberals did not lay a glove on him".
Don Martin: "If this was the season opener, Harper hit a home run".
Licia Corbella: "A little less conversation, a little more action".
. and over at CBC, all they could say was:
Parliament returns.
-Liberal leadership hopefuls making their announcements this week.
-Belinda Stronach won't run.
Looks like Paul Martin took the day off too, but I guess he's entitled.

All criminals and felons really need is love. We should institute a hugging policy. Perhaps, for Murder 1 they get 25 hugs and a whole bunch of Hallmark cards telling them how special they are. Once they realize how loved they are they'll stop killing...or do the world a favour and knife the retards who think that soft policies on crime are effective.

some crimes need to have stronger sentences but majority of criminals are those who simply fucked up along the road of life. The most effective murder sentence I have heard of is 2 years in a pit in which it is filled with water at night and drained during the day . I question the amount of legal crimes commited versus those which carry jail sentences along with the fact that there are many laws which find themselves being torn to peices by different generations and occasionally those who created them condemned to jail themselves. Which simply tells the tale that maybe many laws and punishments are partially , flavor of the day. The difference between legal and illegal crimes is making the crime legal and there is no shortage of them including murder . If someone killed you're friend or any relative the most common feeling would be vigil but where is the solution in that , capital punishment or life long jail sentences unless those who commit crimes oppose solutions for themselves .

Question Period has nothing to do with asking real questions and getting real answers. It's about creating sound bites for the news to use.....
Everyone already knows the answers that will be given for all the questions, and they know which questions will be asked.....
They are the sames questions and answers you see in the news usually beforehand.....
I mean when that NDP guy asked Harper about the Emerson thing, did you really expect Harper to say anything different there from what he said publicly in other places????

honestly I have watched some of the question period from the last 2 day, it is no different than the last parliament. The goverment rarely actualy answers the questions, I notice very little chance.
But i still find it entertaining.

Question Period is basically like professional wrestling, Trevor...fun to watch, but not real. The real work happens in committee.
I've found the tone of Question Period a little more reasonable this time though. Fewer catcalls and disruptions. We'll see if that holds up.
Something that really pissed me off about the Conservatives last time around is that they so rarely asked a question about policy and they asked so many questions that they knew the government couldn't answer. Even the more substantial issues around Gomery, like asking the Liberals to put the money in trust until we knew what was going on for sure, were left to the NDP and Bloc. The Conservatives were too busy launching personal attacks for that.
