McGuinty to briefly prorogue Ontario legislature
Updated: Tue Feb. 09 2010 2:11:34 PM

The Canadian Press

BROCKVILLE, Ont. — Politicians will be heading back to work in the Ontario legislature next week as scheduled, Premier Dalton McGuinty said Tuesday.

But he said he will prorogue the legislative session briefly before starting a new one after the Vancouver Olympics with a speech from throne.

"There will be a throne speech, but we will not follow the federal example of an extended break before we have that throne speech," McGuinty said after touring a solar panel testing facility near Brockville, in eastern Ontario.

"That throne speech will likely come after the Olympics are over, just so you know."

He said there will be a "limited break" before the throne speech, something that is required by law in order to start a new session.

"You can't introduce a throne speech unless you have a break," he said.

notice how the media refers to it as briefly prorogues ? funny did he bother to follow any of the rules the federal liberals suggested just last week
such as asking for a vote on prorogation in the legislature or providing written notice ? no there will be no vote and he has just come out and said he was going to do this without even doing the things the federal liberals said was important just last week , what a bunch of hyprocrits the liberals are

as they say when your a liberal its do as we say not do as we did

Why are all of our politicians taking a break for the Olympics? This doesn't make any sense.

And here lies the problem.

Prorogation happens all the time, yet most people don't have a clue why it's used. The Provincial Liberals want to start a new session with a throne speech and without prorogation, it can't happen.

Regardless, it will be OK that he does it because it's a Liberal doing so. Anything else would be unacceptable.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
I agree romanP.

For Christ's sakes, something could go wrong. We can't just shut down the bloody country for a game!

The government is still working. It's only the parliament that is in break. The MPs are only in parliament some months during a year.

That's just too complicated a concept for some folk to grasp. Better they join a facebook protest instead.

Talking of Facebook, I'm creating a Fan Club of me on Facebook. I'm also printing t-shirts, car flags, buttons and bumper stickers. Are you in ?
