Brenda Brenda:
If you say the family Class immigration needs a reboot (or a boot...) I agree with you.

All that would do is split up families and hamper overall immigration. How many young, highly educated people are going to move to a distant country and leave their family members to fend for themselves? Not many.

Besides, the way it works now, sponsoring immediate family members (like children or spouses) is short term less than a year, but family members such as parents and aunts/uncles/cousins take almost 3 years to sponsor. And all that does is allow you to apply for PR for them, which then takes upwards of another year.

The 'useless' family class immigrants everyone here seems to be talking about take almost 5 years to get to Canada, and the cost is substantial, in the area of $1000 each. That is plenty of 'deterrent' IMHO.

EyeBrock EyeBrock:
I did Co-Op student interviews today. All the students were either MBA or double-honours business students, all immigrants with degrees up the ying-yang.

Out of the four only one had the communication skills (as in both good written and spoken English).
They may be well educated but they can't be understood and they can't even write a resume, but they will get their MBA's I'm sure.

Looks like you got the short end of the stick then.

In my wife's MBA class, almost half were international students, and they were all good writers and had a decent command of the English language. So well in fact, that most of them are working in Canada now.
