Also considering we already have multiple programs for children and parents to offer subsidized care, this would be over and above. Not only do we have the $100 per child daycare supplement, but low-income families here in Ontario also receive a large chunk of change/month depending on how much income you make.
This isn't something you can throw money at and new daycare spaces will open....this is a huge undertaking.
Most cities will require a completely re-vamped daycare infrastructure that will result in facilities being built, massive cost over-runs and billions more spent each year to keep these facilities running.
To make this work, some of that money will have to be clawed back from the hands of struggling parents and forcing them to use institutionalized daycare....which is rarely the best choice for young children to begin with.
It won't go over well, nor will telling us that it'll be "revenue neutral".
