Jack has become the leader of the Canadian Taliban union (close but not related to the BC Teachers Union). I dearly hope that this sinks his career because he deserves it.

From an Afghan newspaper:
[web]http://e-ariana.com/ariana/eariana.nsf/63e0bdfbc90b9ca987256be00056a108/fdba8df7eab67fd7872571dc0048e62b?OpenDocument[/web]

$1:
Étienne Allard, a spokesman for Defence Minister Gordon O'Connor, said "With such a statement from Mr. Layton, many Canadians are wondering if that would mean the Taliban would be back in power, children would not be allowed to go to school, people who want to live in a democracy would have to leave their country and women would not be entitled to a life of freedom."

Pull troops from Afghanistan by February: Layton
Can you say upcoming NDP convention and the leader wants to stake out his position? I knew you could.

Besides, NDP being pro-war is just not going to fly.

Imagine if we told workers here okay you need to build a school but watch out for those armed rebels they may try and kill you. Until the area is secure we can't really send our reconstruction teams there many would not want to work in those conditions. I don't think we need to negotiate anything but their surrender, which I doubt they ever will. We are there until the Afghan Army can defend itself and secure its own borders without NATO help. After that we can probably start building more for the people.

Part 2 ? I thought by now, Jack’s bouts of verbal diarrhea had become a mini series by now.

what is at the centre of this is the NDP mentality that everyone can be negotiated with because deep down they're just misunderstood and have legitimate greivances, otherwise why would they resort to violence?
Fact is that the Taliban have had plenty of chances to surrender, Afghanistan is full of former warlords and their militias who've switched sides or been reabsorbed into what passes for a society. The Taliban could have done the same, there is no room for peace negotiations because nothing the Taliban stand for is compatible with the type of Afghanistan most Afghans want.
Now surrender negotiations that's a different thing, if the Taliban want to discuss the terms of a unilateral surrender well great the less people who have to die the better

Jack Layton is, frankly, just trying to solidify his support amongst the anti-war crowd, who scream about Afghanistan being some sort of "war of imperialism".

Jack Layton always gives me a good laugh. I would really like to know what he expects out of the Taliban by sitting down to speak with them. If he expects much more than being shot than he's a little off the mark. I wonder if he even knows what the Taliban has done in the past and present. If he does, he's losing his mind. If he doesn't, he shouldn't be a leader of a political party. Oh, wait... my bad, I guess we're disgussing the NDP aren't we? Ok, than he's perfect for that party.

I mean seriously, does Jack Layton want the Afghan people to go back to living under Taliban rule? Forcing the people to live under their form of strict Islamic rule. Which I want to point out that the Talibans form of Islam is not widely shared by muslims in the world.

The Taliban massacre the Afghan people day after day in all forms of torture and terrorism. Force the people out of their traditional way of life. Make men grow beards, take schools away from children along with all forms of toys. Even pencils are out of the question. Lets not forget how they deal with women. Does the word stoning ring a bell? I could go on all day.

Bottom line, Jack Layton needs to smarten the **** up.

I support the NDP's right to exist in principle, but the fact is that they are a party that just doesn't deserve to govern. They embarrass themselves far too much for anyone's own good.

The NDP are more like a second liberal party when they screw up people just vote for them. I wonder if they would actually be better off merging with the liberals like what the P.C. and reformers did? It is actually kind of funny they run all across Canada yet have less seats than the bloc do which only run in one province.
