I know Harper is a member of an Evangelical Church, but he's also a very sly politician. There was a news article on the wknd about the Conservative chair of a 'secret' parliamentary committee, and they're looking to re-open the issue of abortion.

Do you think Harper will open this can of worms? I think some in his caucus are getting antsy, you can't wait forever for a majority that might never come.

I don't think he wants to...but its reminding me of when Preston Manning was leader of the old Reform Party. He was constantly putting out fires, lit by social regressives in his party making really stupid statements about turbans or going off on some intolerant rant.

Good for Harper, and a smart political move. Just hope he sticks to his guns on this one...I think he will.

Harper belongs to an E church but his politics take precedent over holding a referendum on whether or not to try and put an end to the ongoing killing of unborn babies, now that's a true slimeball for you. But then again, thats a true politician as well. And after all, why in the hell should we have a free and open vote, this involves the choice of women and men who want to kill the most helpless individuals that society has, why the hell should democracy interfere with that :!:

I suggest you vote for someone else anyway. If that's all it takes for you to vote for someone else you might as well.

I hope Harper doesn't reopen this issue, and I believe him when he says that will do what he can to make sure it doesn't reopen.

However, I hope every man and women keeps this discussion active in their home. Canadians have 43 abortions for every 100 live births. Even if this is a 'right', it would be better if we weren't so damn narcissistic in our ways.

'Rape' aside, abortion is strictly about irresposibility and selfishness!

This is a dead issue. It is not in the parties police book and I think most Conservatives know that it is to big a "can of worms" to open. Plus there is more pressing issues. Like the abolition of the income tax and the government doing it job which is to protected the individual rights.

The Supreme Court has already ruled on abortion (Morgentaler). Harper has no authority to make laws contrary to a Supreme Court ruling on Constitutional grounds.
