George Drew, Robert Stanfield and Tommy Douglas are all former Premiers who tried to become Prime Minister. They all failed.

They're also all a lot smarter than Doug Ford.

If they couldn't do it, then Ford probably can't either.

Harper did it, why can't he? He's offering the same policies and platform.

Because Harper was a lot smarter, he was never a provincial Premier and he had a lot less political baggage when he ran for office.

The Ford brothers are/were great retail politicians, but they don't bring much else to the table. Pierre Poilievre has similar retail skills and arguably more policy smarts. Not to mention that Doug has a lot of political baggage from being Ontario Premier, including his nepotism in appointing people to important positions whose only "qualifications" were being his personal buddies.

And again, no provincial Premier has ever become Prime Minister. That might change at some point, but if guys like Drew, Stanfield and Douglas couldn't do it, I wouldn't put money on Ford.

State governorship is often a step on the road to the White House, but this ain't the United States.
