That the headline on Bourque$1: With the Liberal Party trailing the governing Conservative Party by a wide margin in recent polls, rumours of fact and facts of rumour have been percolating to the extent that disgruntled Liberal insiders, both pro-Dion and supporters of his leadership opponents, have been exchanging knowing glances, innuendo'd emails, and philandering phone calls, all to the effect that time has come to seek out a strong consensus-building Liberal with the kind of hands-on leadership qualities that can handle the challenge that befits a man who has won three successive majority elections: Jean Chretien. The man is said to be ready and waiting for the call. His longtime praetorian guard, pollsters, and spin-meisters are all girding for battle. "Pierre, the scenario is simple", confided a Toronto-based politico well-known to late-afternoon TV watchers, "one way or another, the odds are stacked against Stephane. He'll go down in the election and the call will immediately go out for Chretien to be drafted into service." Developing.

Vlad the Impaler: Canadian Edition lol
Chretien holds as much responsibility for dividing the LPoC as Martain does. The only reason he was in power so long is because there wasnt an oposition and hordes of money spent on propaganda

Mostly people in Ontario voted for him. I have no idea why. Most out here voted for the reform party.

He kept us out of Iraq--I like Chretien for that alone. Plus he never kissed American ass. You ever see Petetr Mackay around Condoleeza Rice--jesus, it's sickening.

He's the goon of Canadian politics, who set the record for the most meddling by the PMO in the RCMP, defence contracts, and public spending in general. He was an arogant, corrupt man who suceeded in politics only because he outlasted so many others.
It's appropriate that he's shown here as the godfather.

That still doesn't change the fact that he kept us out of Iraq, didn't kiss American ass, and has more charisma than harper.
Nice pic though.

He may not have put us in Iraq but he put us in Haiti and Afghanistan with no plan, goalposts or consultation from the rest of the country.
Does not putting us in one war excuse him from putting us in another, without authority from the Canadian people?
There is a definate difference between civil relations and Chretien used the US as a boogey man to get support from the lefties and French. How far did his "not kissing the "American bastards" ass set the tone for the softwood lumber or the border ID issues now?
As for his charisma; like making a mockery of the Gomery or any other investigation of him?
There was some occasion where Chretien used the RCMP to harass some bank manager in Quebec. If anyone recalls the names, please shoot me over a link. It was a perfect example of Chretien abusing his authority.
