She can't scrap it for 5 years, at least not without paying back the 1.6 billion the feds gave BC. Many people say the tax isn't the problem, VAT taxes are better than income taxes. The problem is how Gordo brought it in, totally lying. That's why I signed the petition against it and would have voted against it in the referendum. With Gordo gone, who knows.

Actually the poor get back more in rebates than they can possibly spend on the HST. Remember that many things already had GST and PST on them. I'm willing to buy the argument that consumption taxes are a better idea than more income taxes.

sandorski sandorski:
The best thing he could do for BC IMO. I don't disagree with the HST, but clearly the way it was implemented and the subsequent controversy around that was guaranteed to bring the NDP back into Power. Perhaps replacing Campbell will avoid that, but I suspect it won't be enough. At least there's still hope though.

Thjat's what most of the media reports seem to be missing, IMO. They always refer to the "hated HST" and the "despised HST." Well, nobody likes new taxes but what set people off here was the underhanded and arrogant manner in which it was done.

Curiously no mention of the BC Rail scandal in the media either.

But on a day like today (yesterday actually) it's important to remember the good things Campbell accomplished--good economic stewardship, relative labour peace, good relations with First Nations, citizen's committee on voting, successful Olympics, stonrg voice for BC federally.
