Several reasons for that. A lot of record companies are in California, so a lot of musicians are forced to go their. But that doesn't mean t hat all of those living in Cali wouldn't rather be back in Canada. And quite a few of those bands do live in Canada... The Tragically Hip, for one.

We are not proud that so many reside in the US. We are proud of their Canadian Heritage. Even if, like Bryan Adams, they have almost no association with Canada anymore. Bryan Adams is so removed from Canada that his last album (last one that I'm aware of, it seems like 10 years ago "The only thing that looks good on you is me") didn't qualify for the Junos.
There is more opportunity in the states, which we regret. But we still, kinda, love 'em (Celine Dion, Shania Twain, et al )

That's pretty obvious isn't it? In a market that is obviously larger, companies that can offer bigger contracts, more exposure? geez... doesn't take a rocket scientist. They're Canadian born and bred.. period. They'll never be Americans at heart. Typical scenerio applies though where the US likes to lure the best away from the rest and claim it as their own or at least do their best to justify it. Pretty hefty failure rate though seen by those who aren't naive enough to adopt that mentality. (i.e. the rest of the world)

Yeah, and for the longest time Canadian artists had to go to the US to get record deals becaue htere were few Canadian labels willing to sign them. People like Joni Mitchell and Neil Young were pretty much forced to go to US labels. Now it's different, but the money is still in the US and talent (often but not always) follows the money.

Don't shoot me but I'm a Prairie Girl so I have to say Terri Clark Paul Brandt is pretty good, spent the late 80's early 90's listening to the Headpins, Rush, Trooper, Queen City Kids, also have make special mention of Johner Brothers Nickelback is pretty good, and another favorite would be Great Big Sea, I hooked a friend down here on them and all these rednecks think he is crazy LOL

Ya, The Guess Who are amazing. Burton Cummings has the best voice I've ever heard. Randy Bachman is amazing aswell, he's a testement to Canadian music and ingenuity.
