Interesting points. He needs to be aware that the two areas where Canadian infantry train are Wainwright, Alberta (oil country)and Gagetown New Brunswick (flat plain with clay soil very hard to dig in).

This is why the infantry have the cold weather training that they do. Gagetown is the largest NATO base in the world. We have international troops from all around that come to train there as we have the land to do it and we got a cut deal with the Brits for subs. So Gurkha regiments were common. Infantry are NOT farmers and country boys. Thou they tend to be predominantly hired from regions with low economic prospects such as the Maritimes and the prairies.

That said it was good to see the c6 with the SF kit rocking rounds.

Edit: and regiments that come from cities do tend to be more rowdy and the country ones tend to be more resourceful as a rule of thumb. It's a New York state of mind thing I think.

My brother in law stationed at Gagetown WAS an avid outdoorsman. He grew up in Nova Scotia hunting, fishing, snow shoeing , hiking, you name it. I remember the guy had eyes like a hawk. He could see fish in the water that I never could. He could see game in the wild with his bare eyes that I needed a scope to see. Nothing moved without this guy zoning in on it. Kind of eerie actually.

I remember staying at his place in Oromocto for a few days. Very nice area. I would say that it is an excellent area to be stationed in as the cost of living is drastically lower than southern Ontario or B.C. Nice, clean, safe area where you can raise a family. Kids can still ride a bike and not have to stay in your line of sight. The only draw back is that there are no major league sports teams in the area. But hey there is nothing wrong with going to watch the juniors. The tickets are cheap, and those kids bust their asses to get noticed. Season tickets for the whole family are usually cheaper than going to a single NHL game.
