Sounds to me like they're nothing but a bunch of tofu farting hippies. The sad part is that, the military almost always backs down when it comes to social conflict in Canada (Oka is obviously exempt from that statement). Look what happened when the protests started in Guelph over campus recruiting.

Ridiculous. What's next, stopping exercises in Shilo and Suffield? Someone needs to start a counter petition...

I think it's ridiculous however, they do have the right. Oh wait, isn't that 'right' something that military is training to defend?

Its fair enough that military excercise has to occur somewhere but I keep thinking the same thing about suffield ....What a waste of good land .If they ever stopped and leave I'd buy as much of that land I could afford

Idiots fucking idiots. They have a right to do this but last time I checked Aristide came to power in Haiti through fraud not through true democracy. Last time I checked Afghanistan under Taliban rule was not only brutal to it's citizens but sponsored terrorism. Canadians in Iraq are volunteers or n exchange programs. And agaisnt the natives, last time I checked most countrie call in the military when things get out of hand for the police. So all I can say Is, I hope these guys pack up and move to syria.

Aristide was still an elected official that the US never liked. He was to ''anti-American'' as he fought against foreign business owners that we're exploiting the population. He was a man of the people, and the people loved him. Not everyone did, obviously. The ex-military, the business community, and the US didnt like him. So they brought him down. To say it wasnt a coup is ridiculous, and I'm still sad to this day Canada had anything to do with it.

the US should allow him to go back and run in reformed elections, taking him out and restoring order was neccessary as he could not govern the country effectively (or at all)...but now stability is back and he should be allowed back.

The man had less then 2,000 police for a population which is roughly the equivalent of NYC. Of those 2,000 police most were missing, one anti-drug team, emerged only once, to shut down a highway so they could land drug planes on it.

The man could not fight a thing, as he had no means to, thats why when Haiti erupted in violence he could do nothing about it, and thats why he was removed.

I think they are out of their league but it is good to see that they are at least attempting to understand the world around them. They are completely out of step but the ridicule they receive will smarten them up hopefully and get them to focus on what it is they really should stand for. Ok, maybe that is a stretch at this point considering they state: 'In Kanehsatake in 1990, Canadian forces attempted to put down Mohawk resistance to the town of Oka's attempted expansion of a golf course on to territory including a Mohawk burial ground.'

Uh, no. Not even close! Had they said the Surete du Quebec and the mayor of Quebec did then maybe, but to say that mother green was there to do anything but restore order is idiocy.
