Back From Golfing, Trump Denies Knowing About Russian Bounties to Kill U.S. Soldiers

Peter Wade June 27, 2020 7:18PM ET

On Friday night the New York Times reported a blockbuster story: U.S. intelligence has found that Russian military intelligence offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants in Afghanistan to strike coalition forces, including U.S. and British military members.

President Trump has known about the bounties since March and has done nothing to retaliate. The Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal have both confirmed the Times’ reporting.

According to the Times, after Trump was briefed months ago about the role that Russia’s military intelligence agency played in initiating attacks on American soldiers, the president was given a “menu of potential options” on how to respond. But the Trump administration has not acted on any to date.

I see Putin hasn’t lost his copy of Epstein’s Trump tape

I've read elsewhere multiple times that United States Cyber Command is so advanced technologically that they could take the Russian, Chinese, and North Korean militaries offline in less than a week. Satellites gone. All internet communications gone. Cellular comm and texting brought to a screeching halt. Radar systems effectively shuttered altogether. Basically it could reduce the enemy back to using radio transmissions of a World War Two vintage.

They won't do this of course, because it would be such a huge declaration of war essentially that the Russians would have no choice but to respond with nuclear weapons, and the Chinese would probably attack Taiwan, South Korea, and possibly even Japan in retaliation. But that doesn't mean that the US can't do other things that would make Ivan and the others bleed badly. At a minimum all Cyber Command would need to do to give Putin and Xi a bloody nose neither of them would forget, if not set in motion the sequence of events that could topple them, would be to wipe out the troll farms pushing fake news and all that other poison into the American system. No physical casualties at all, just a massive overnight drop in the number enemy agents using Facebook and Twitter - sorry, Zuck, national security is far more important than the number of users you want to have. The enemy propaganda and disinformation machine that's been in high-gear since Trump came down the escalator in 2015 would be stopped dead in it's tracks.

All Cyber Command needs is the go-ahead order. And that order will never come as long as Trump is the POSPOTUS. If the Russians go down then he goes down with them. That he won't give the order shows without a doubt that he's as much of a traitor as Benedict Arnold or John Wilkes Booth.

I guess the memory of those Stinger missiles lives on:

Is any reasonable person surprised that Putin would think this way? He hates the West.

I think you have that wrong. Putin loves the West. It gives him a target to focus hatred toward, so distracting people from the crime and theft he perpetuates in Russia.

The West also gives Putin a place to launder the money he and his gangster apparatchiks have stolen from the Russian treasury. Putin doesn't want war, he just wants enough disruption in the West that any investigation of his activities or attempts to halt him doesn't happen. Turned out for Russia that making mobsters in the US and Europe into partners, and using the already existing web of organized crime in the West, for the purposes and benefit of their own criminal class is a lot more lucrative than something as messy as an actual war of conquest could ever be.

He has genuine hostility for the West. That doesn’t mean he can’t use it for his own ends. They’re not mutually exclusive.
