Sadly my knowledge of this part of history is severely lacking, so I was hoping some of our History Buffs could recommend a book for me to read on the subject. I'm looking for something that focuses on the Canadian theater. Be quick guys I fly out to the states on Friday and need some reading material. [B-o]

I have to admit, my collection is very short here. However, I'd throw out Pierre Berton for some good pop history. The Invasion of Canada and Flames Across the Border are pretty good reads and should be easy to find.

Ya there was one I found Pierre Berton's War Of 1812, it seemed exactly what I was looking for.

University catalogue and Amazon apparently like The Invasion of Canada: Battles of the War of 1812 by Ronald J. Dale. 96 pages so not too bad, everything I have personally read just has the War of 1812 as a chapter, usually less.

That'll do it. Good popular history book and a fun read.

Well it went like this:
Yankees are pissed at the British so we get invaded.
They attack us multiple times in several places.
They make no real gains.
We burn the Pink House, rebuilt as White House.
Battle of New Orleans.
War ends.
For the record, this is off the top of my head.

Who's 'we' when we refer to burning the white house?

Plus the Yanks were more opportunistic than pissed. Your little synopsis is short on facts.

It was the British. But we helped. Salaberry kept Montreal and Isaac Brock alerted us.

Check out our podcast on the War of 1812. We are on the invasion of Canada right now, covered Brock vs. Hull in Detroit in the last episode, will be covering Niagara in the next episode.

"Redcoated Ploughboys"
A History of the Volunteer Battalion of Incorporated Militia, 1813-1815
by Richard Feltoe

This is a really well written book about the part played by Canadians in the War of 1812 and about the evolution of the militia.
