I have to translate the following definition:

I'm assuming they are talking about something that was used to carry animal skins? I'm not sure, if I could just get the proper English term for what is being explained...

Google Translate, not perfect but tells you what you need to know:

Room: Skin pressed into a compact package. This facilitated transport. The normal weight of the package was 90 pounds (40 kilos). In 1800, a typical room could hold 44 beaver skins, 12 otter skins, bear skins 5 and 6 fisher. The number of beaver pelts varied seasonally. The skin of winter beaver was much heavier than the beaver pelt summer. The skins were placed against fur fur, leather against leather, to avoid damage to the hair. The skins of lesser value such as moose and beaver summer covered the outside of the room. A standard room worth between 30 and 50 Pounds, by region and level of competition.

Edit: Piece also translates as "cask" instead of "room". Cask is probably the correct reference here.

As the years passed the taking of beaver pelts was gradually replaced by the taking of large numbers of empty beer cans to the bottle depot.

More appropriate would be "bale". It was a stack of skins, wrapped with less valuable skins, and bound with cord.

Just to be clear, the last part refers to value, not weight.

Indeed, it's a bale.

Yep. And another parasitic student joins, gathers info from the regulars here to avoid work, then disappears into the darkness.

I can't see why this is called a "pièce", I see it as a "ballot".
None of my French references mentions "pièce".

An image I found with the keyword "ballot"...

What the hell, gives us something to talk about, if we want. :)

Better than that 2 dozen Spams we got a couple of days ago.

It's a needless distraction from the gun threads, Boston bombing threads, Muslims are bad threads, and most important, Raydan's C drive thread.
