I think you can guess what my favorite beer is (Alexander Keith's for the blockheads out there). But I also like GW and Brewhouse (i dont think they make it anymore though). and Brewsters wheat lager (restaurant chain).

I'm finding that some of the best beer you can drink are made in micro breweries, in small batches. This is starting to take off in Taiwan now, so I'm going to have to start drinking more beer.

My "default" beer, for lack of a better word, is Molson Ex. Others I often go for are Kokanee and Moosehead, although the availability of Moosehead in Quebec still seems limited.

Well... by the looks of things, a lot of people have talked up the different varieties of Sleeman as being a great beer.

Anyway... last weekend I had the opportunity to try MOLSON XXX at 7.3%! Holy Sh*t that is a good beer!!! Anyone else have thoughts about it???

I know a guy who does something truly gruesome: He'll buy one of those huge bottles of Carling Black Label 10%, and then add an equal amount of water to get it back down to 5%. He figures he's getting twice the amount of beer for his money....

reminds me of a guy I met at a party a few years ago. He tried to convince me that if you poured two pints of rum into one quart bottle, you'd have an 80% alcohol content.

Guys like this, they've got bad taste in booze and math obviously isn't their strong suit!

The local brew here, kaoliang, is made from sorghum and it is 120 proof and it's like fermented pepper juice. Ahhh veddy goo week foh dis. Holy sheep shit batman, talk about raw spirits.

Here in Edmonton a new brewery opened up recently. It's called Maverick and I must say, their beer is by far the best lager I have ever had and at two bucks a bottle, it is also pretty inexpensive. In addition, they have these kick-ass bottles that are a slightly different shape than "normal" beer bottles. They are surprisingly comfortable in your hand, no matter which way you hold them (and there are a variety of ways). It is definitely primed to overtake the micro-brewery market.

Yes, I must say my consumption of Molson has gone down "considerably" when I heard the (thanks for correcting me ) "merger" took place. Anybody know any beer that is actually "owned" by Canadians?

I'm pretty sure Labatt is, isn't it?

Sorry guy, it is owned by Belgian Interbrew SA and has been since 1995. Molson was our last hope and now they sold out too.

They are. They are as expensive as importants though. There are always local micro-breweries to support and they often have superior quality at lower prices (if you go to the brewery). Back in Univeristy we would get kegs from the local brewery to help support them. In turn they would give "tours" of the brewery to uni groups which always ended up with much "quality control" of their product.

Blue_Nose, your still a student right? Then your favourite beer should always be "Free Beer Sir!". Its not just for frosh.

There are quite a number of microbreweries here in Halifax.... there's two within three blocks of my apartment.
